any one got a old style no3 cab they want to sell?

I did have just the No.3 cab in my bits box at one time I will have to look and see if I still have it.
Be very handy if you have i have lots of chassis bits so could build up a loco from a cab

Oh Dear i must be the odd one out as i have Zero Stainz but if we are talking the Kliene Dicki's then i have three of those:bigsmile::bigsmile:

I have 5 , 2 steif bear ,2006 show loco , and 2 green locos , like a lot of people on here it was the first lgb loco I purchased in the starter set , must have spent the first couple of days just holding it and taking in the size( and the loco wasn't bad either) , never looked back since

I've probably got 4 or 5. They're in storage right now so I can't count them. I have picked them up at the yearly Big Train Show in Ontario, California. There is a large dealer of used trains that is always there and he sells them for $50 to $125 (£32 to £80). Some of them have seen a LOT of use.

Quick update to my original post

I now have 28 Stainz Locos of Various descriptions

I also will shortly be doing a large puchase of stainz spares from Modell-land so if there's any stainz bits any one wants, happy to add to order.

P.m on the way

i just decided to start collecting all the various issues or special editions amazing how many there is or the variations in year issue, for example 1 have 4 brown no1 cabs all slightly different, ie chassis lettering, driver postion, red rear lens or clear rear lens.

also started collecting and stripping scrap stainzs and rebuilding ones of the best bits.

i've no idea either and it's possible to get 2 locos with the same chassis date, one with red lens and one with both clear lens, looking in greenberg guides etc, seems to be no hard or fast rule to when or what was fitted.

Where is the 'looks aghast' emoticon?
edited because it wasn't reported speech, sorry

Any ideas if there's a definative list anywhere of Stainz editions
i know of about 40 special editions and aim to collect all of them

well that may in fact be too many!

actually, after reading that you are collecting -that seems a reasonably obtainable goal-as they dont seem to be too pricey-although ive seen some, typically those with fancier paint, or the very last LGB versions in DR, on ebay here for stupid prices-

i have always loved the red rear lens versions and will buy one should i be able to find one in good condition
i think they're interesting and , i tend to like variations

i think its hard to beat a stainz for sheer joy of running, reliability, and ease of handling
may we please have some pics?? especially of the more unusual ones at least

Some pics as Starters

made the pics smaller

There are a lot more than 40 specials. If you want all the Stainz variations including all the variations of the standard editions you would need space for several hundred.

I have no idea how many stainz versions there are
been trying to find a definitive record

i have evidence of the 40 i'm trying to collect that will do for starters
then go from there

who knows how many i'll end up with
i know i have 3 brown no 1's all different
and 4 green no2's all different.

The world is my stainz:thumbup:

The collecting books only list the versions up to the mid 1990s and even them they don't list them all. In addition to the standard "limited edition" train set versions there are those produced for model clubs, conventions, train clubs, business marketing / promotions etc.

I just love the Stainz, and also started collecting all the different numbers, liveries etc but before I got too carried away I realised how many that meant buying. So I keep a few of the originals, including a couple of early 'Growlers' but the more standard versions have been repainted in to my fleet colours to act as tram engines on the light railway. I dont have anywhere near as many as some of you, but still have more than my fair share!

the cream and brown versions you have done are really beautiful
love the red plates on the one in back-lovely highlight and detail
and the modern valve gear version with black well and wheels too (!!!) just looks so plausible

i think you should do a tender version !!

update there are now 40 little stainz's around the house, not all complete and time i'm finshed and repairing the current batch the total running will prob be less than 40, it getting interesting for example i now have 10 different versions of a No1 and thats just green and brown versions, ie different build dates, handrails and handles, headlights etc,
there also changes to the couplers, although it's possible to change the rear part of the block with the small coupler to the later version with a large coupler, and modell-land stock this bit and i've had to with a couple of chassis as the older coupler is oboslete.

Maybe - just, maybe, getting the total into four figures is enough - not too many, but enough!
