in praise of the stainz,
its funny about the stainz imho
i always thought it very toyish when i first saw it (as i did most LGB stuff when i started in 1986)
the LGB colors, bright work, shiny finish
then having seen the real thing on you tube
it has grown on me
this coming from a yank that for decades loved big mainline trains, as well as narrow gauge, in blacks and mineral reds
now the dimunitive trains and stock appeal, probably more, to me
possibly becuase of ease, overall space used and scale, ie garden to trains
and, for those of us who dont store our stock near or one the garden line-its by far the easiest steam loco to transport and place on the rails,
and
its almost cannon fodder as far as twigs and leaves and snow on the line,
little fear of damaging the metal rods and valve gear, shiny paint is easy to clean of dust and grit,
easy to get parts for, not that youll likely need them,
not a big risk or investment for leaving in the elements, or otherwise
guaranteed to get through if anything will (even if in numbers)
able to race through the R1s, points, and all sorts of stuff without derailing , or , if such occurs, without damage
able to be left running with not so much thought to stalling, or undue wear
able to allow the average ham fisted adult or wreckless child handle and operate without a rise in bood pressure or recurring nightmares
simply a pleasing loco overall,
ive come to appreciate what they are as opposed to what they arent
(but still want one that has sound and sync smoke with 5v lights and flickering firebox!)
