Can anyone enlighten me on MTS1, as supplied with the basic Digital LGB sets.

I'm re-vamping Hard Yard, the portable layout, and I have an MTS fitted Kof which I use for this.

A small digital controller would probably be ideal, as the layout operates with a 'one engine in steam' policy.

Has anyone got a MTS1 for sale, as I guess most digital users are using MTS2/3 or Massoth these days....

Never dealt with MTS1 but is that the one where you have the mouse to control it.

Think you might be better off with a 2 . Gizzy

I have one, for sale. Postage to UK might be expensive for you though (live in Belgium/Netherlands)..

Perfect for basic loco operations.

I believe that's the one Phil?

I'm looking for a dedicated controller for a simple layout, that's cheap & cheerful....

Never played with one but if the moneys right why not try it. It will be serial and therefore a bit slow responding

Does it have be MTS? There are other low-end "start set" DCC systems that are a bit more modern (NCE PowerCab comes to mind as I have NCE gear). Apart from not going all the way up to 24 volts output I'd have thought one of these might be a better investment in the long run. You should at least get 28/128 speed steps (better for shunting if your Kof supports 28 steps), more loco addresses etc. Depends on how much you can get an MTS1 for, I guess.

No, doesn't have to be MTS Nick?

Just looking at all the options.

I was having a look at the Bachmann EZ system at the local model shop today, which for £60 looks like a good package, although I may need a current booster as well....

Take the rubbish off the front of Philbahn's link up to and including the first ">"

Funny thing, I tried to paste it and got the same rubbish!

Well thanks to Phil and Nick, I now understand a little more about the MTS system.

Phil's suggestion that MTS 2 would be a better idea seems to be one that I now agree with, although I may still consider an MTS 1 if the price is right....

I have used the small E-Z control centre on the Lentil Soup Works Railway to control fledbhan locos without any problems. The transformer was rated at 16vac at 1.6 amps.
Provided you used it for shunting with the odd short burst of speed it should fit the bill.

Having helped Gizzy to run Hardyard at a show, I can guarantee you that "bursts of speed" are simply not possible on the layout.... at least not unless you want your loco to end up on the neighboring stand!
