The Woodlock Line

Did BR have any Porters?
Certainly did in the 1950’s and perhaps early 60’s, not entirely sure when they would have disappeared but certainly by privatization in 1994, however some of the TOC’s did try to reintroduce them but not entirely sure it would have fitted in with the profit motives.

Yes, I remember the human porters, but ...

Oh them sort of Porters, not many or even any to the best of my knowledge. There may have been some Porter built locomotives in industrial service. Certainly the WW1 and WW2 imports were not by Porter according to my research just now.

Did BR have any Porters?
Certainly at the end of the 80s.

I'd broke my toe and was on crutches then.

I had to get home from Wiltshire to Suffolk, via London.

I arranged to be met at Paddington and King's Cross stations in London for assistance.

Then Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds.

BR porters helped with my kit bag at all these stations except for BSE, where I had to carry my own bag whilst on crutches over the barrow crossing at the station....
