Our Garden railway started by a big bundle of track, locomotives and rolling stock back in April 2025. Started the build in August 2025 and held our first open day/garden in June of this year.
We have had interest in North American locomotives and landscapes, and a trip to Ontario Canada led us to incorporate the scenery into our garden / layout. Designed for continuous running, the layout features two completely flat, independent circuits: a lower R3 circuit representing the East Coast of the US with a homemade covered bridge and slate canyon cut, and an upper R1/R2 circuit inspired by the Canadian Shield with a logging yard, engine shed, blasted rock cuts, and custom red ‘cedar’ trestles.
Has been a learning experience of gradients, points and space needed for overhangs of wagons etc.
Since our open day we have converted over to full DCC whilst keeping DC available to use for analogue locos etc. Some future expansion is being experimented so next years open day may have even more track!
A few photos of the two circuits taken the morning of our open garden.
