The required garden bit, a sitting area for watching trains in the sun(?)
Head of brass behind the levelled area which will progress soon to the left

For a moment I thought that that was a G scale pick - and then I realised the amount of work to be done. Keep it up and keep sending in the pics ;D

Posts set the gradient for the trackbed at the back of the sitting area

And on into the cutting.
The board is the shuttering for the tunnel foundation

This is some serious earth-removal.. As it is (presumably) stony-welsh-ground being excavated by hand, I am well-impressed!

It is indeed
Part of my plan to get fit
As well as to compete phase 4 of the railway, of course ;)

The intervening earth has been dug out, the 2 ends meet and gradients sorted
Shuttering in place for the other end

And up into the cutting with weed control membrane and big gravel for drainage

Marvellous stuff, I like to see some serious earth removal, just like the real thing but smaller a part of the landscape it exists in ;D

I'm envious. Right now, we're waiting for a clear day or five so we can lay a solid foundation (concrete pavers) and move a shed from the bottom of the backyard to the top. More room for trains ... oops, did I say that :P : "No, dear, I never mentioned trains, perish the thought. I said more room for the grandkids to play."

Hi Chris - grandkids, as good an excuse as getting fit :)

Excellent real rail engineering! Keep the pictures coming...

will do as soon as I can get back on to it :)
so frustrating when the weather is good and I'm stuck in work, also need some more roofing felt, and getting side-tracked by other more conventional gardening duties
what I want to be doing is laying track so I can sort out clearances for the tunnel lining

Ran a train on `contractors` temporary track up to the tunnel today
