image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg The latest addition to the CFR locomotive roster is a Mamod "Boulton" locomotive. Boulton is a nice medium sized locomotive and compares well the the Roundhouse Harlech Castle. Dimensions are:- length over buffers 245mm, width 90mm, height 150mm. It weighs in at 1.5kg. It has a 12v motor with bevelled gears. The locomotive can be run with eight 1.5v AA batteries, rechargeable batteries can also be used and can be charged in situ. There is a charging socket in the cab alongside an on/off toggle switch and a forward/reverse toggle switch. The variable speed controller is operated by turning the exhaust stack.
I ran the locomotive light engine for a couple of hours straight from the box with no problems. I then ran the locomotive for eight hours with various consists, again without any problems

image.jpeg Running session ended for the day. Boulton ran for a total of 10 hours at a scale speed of 8mph with 1 to 8 Accucraft SR 2 axle wagons and brakevan. Non rechargeable batteries were used, tomorrow I will run it with rechargeable batteries.

Excellent!
I will be interested to see how long the batteries last?
Also,
How ridiculous is the top-speed with rechargeables, please Paul?

Phil, I haven't tried rechargeable batteries yet, that is planned for tomorrow. As I posted in post #5 the locomotive ran at a scale 8mph for 10 hours.

That's a fine speed for a small industrial, isn't it.

Thanks Paul..I have a 'thing' about people fitting too many batteries (too much voltage), then running loco's so fast, that they 'fall-off' on the first corner. - Especially, if a visitor is given control.
Hence the query about the (available) top-speed..

Anybody know what the tab is at the back of the cab? It looks like a blade male electrical connection.

Boulton ran yesterday using rechargeable batteries. Ten hours running at a scale 8mph hauling six wagons and a brakevan. Not bad at all and will be more than enough for a normal running session.

That may reduce some when you RC it, but still probably enough for a days running for you.
