LGB Otto Mallett Bash

Managed a wee bit more progress tonight. Side tanks are now 3 dimensional, rear buffer beam in place and Otto has also donated his filler caps.

I am really liking your work. Would you elaborate on the fastening of the motor units to the chassis, and how they will operate on curves?

Nice bash. It has quite an appealing look and will be a useful loco I'm sure:thumbup:

In my head I have the idea that I want it to behave as per prototype and only the front chassis will swivel. It should still be R1 capable albeit with a ridicolous overhang of the boiler. On larger radius curves it should look fine though.

As soon as I've transferred the idea from my head to the model, I'll elaborate on how it was done. :nail::nail:

Excellent job, Gareth, looking forward to seeing it finished!

Just as a thought, if someone wanted to do one closer to the O&K prototype photo, you could probably do so with a pair of LGB Feldbahn steamer chassis - they might be short enough (though admittedly you can't shorten them too much, as they have the motor at the back) and have the very small wheels. The downside, of course, would be that two of them would be a lot more expensive to source than two Ottos!

Jon.

I think it would be diffcult to articulate the Feldbahn loc's Jon, because as you say the motor is at the back so I wouldn't be able to hack much away from the leading chassis. Plus the Felbahn steamer is such a lovely loco that I really wouldn't want to chop it about.

On reflection, I think you're right on both counts, Gareth - I can see that the articulation could be a problem, and I agree that it would be a shame to chop up two Feldbahn locos! Ah well, it was only an idea.... ;)

In case it helps, if you want a funnel for it that is very similar to the one in your inspiration photo:

Although I am an Americanophile and have limited knowledge of Euro prototypes, I do love good modelling skills and this kit bash displays that in spades.
Well done mate.

Thanks jon, I'm actually going to stick to the straight stack as I'm not a fan of balloon stacks. The prototypes did exist with a straight stack (Statfold Barn Railway has one).
In respect of chopping up a couple of Felbahn loc's I could always tell the missus that I need three (2 to chop, one to keep):thumbup::thumbup:

Nice work mate!

Wasn't too sure when I first saw the photo of the prototype, but it's beginning to grow on me....

Coming on very nice Gareth:thumbup:

Thanks for all the kind comments on the Otto Mallett bash folks. Work is unfortuantely temporarily suspended due to an incident involving my left thumb a Stanley Knife and a Trip to A&E :bleh: (Still got two thumbs though  )

Should be able to crack on again at the weekend once the stiches have done their work.

Ouch!

Nearly stumped there, then.
