LGB 'B' centre gearbox piece wanted

Hi All,
I'm looking for the central section of the gearbox for a LGB B type motor block (Push on wheels, no ball bearings.)
I bought a yet another cheapo Stainz with the axle holes worn into an L shape.
It doesn't need to be a brand new one, just one with round holes and good threads.
The rest of the loco was fine except for the wheels, which were so worn that they were actually concave in profile.
Luckily I have a set of them.

Could you not form an elongated 'U' from thin brass strip?

I would have thought there would be enough 'slop' in the slots for this to work?? - You could then fill any voids, to add strength / hold them in place (though the axles will do this).
