LGB 2045 RhB loco review & questions

Connectors, T ones ? Pray tell please. A link please ? Warning about those black connectors. Though offering a positive and reliable connection they can be a bit fiddly. And those very fine wires (green/yellow in picture) while they will grip them the bare ends can wander inside, eyeballed only, didn't emergize (!) I had a word with PhilP to see if it was possible to spec' a heavier gauge stranded wire coming off those pads.

I'd like to find some compact "no solder" end to end single wire connectors. Without needing a dedicated crimping tool.Any suggestions ? Max

Thanks Jon, I'll put in a search on those terms. Have you tried copying the URL at the top of the page, the bit you can bookmark ? Like this Google Search Max

I use the App on my iPad so that search line only shows the search.

I noticed a large black capacitor (M-8604, 40 V 220 uF) in the old circuit board. I disconnected it now. However, even after that, when I connect to white/brown wires to motor pins (with MR603c output) the directional lights work and loco runs fine on one direction but crawling in other direction (no movement for sometime and then lurches). If I swap brown/white wires, then same thing happens in opposite direction.

Tried with green wires too but then it does not run properly in either direction (which I discovered during the initial battery conversion).

So, long story short, removing capacitor did not solve the problem of directional lights. I still have to change light direction with a manual switch.

Feels like LGB foresaw one day someone would battery convert the loco and made life hell as much as possible. :(

Do you have enough space for a small circuit board, and a few wires?

Your biggest problem would be soldering a couple of wires to the receiver, as these connections are reasonably close together.
The rest you could do with 'choc-block' (screw-terminals).

PhilP.

There is good amount of space inside. This image shows batteries + MR603c only. The power source for light not shown as I power it externally via front/rear sockets from a trailing wagon.
