Hsb Fahrradwagon. (cycle Transporter)

I bumped into this kit accidentally. I was looking at German magazines online and saw this.


When I was in Germany in 2014 I actually rode in this train.

So building the kit was an absolute 'Must Do'.

It came from Modelbahn Profi.
Delivery from Germany was a few days.

It goes on a standard LGB 300 mm chassis (not supplied), other than that everything but glue, paint and transfers is included.

The bodywork is milled from Styrene sheet and all panels are doubled to give planking detail etc on both sides. MEK plastic solvent is recommended as glue (plastic weld) and being water thin, it is brushed on to the edges to fix the panels together.
I have had to order some MEK. I used Ebay and it might be here Tuesday.

In the mean time I started on some metal pieces - the bike racks.

The metal is pre-bent and fitted perfectly into pre-milled holes. I used a dab of super glue on the back to secure the wire.

The rack for the front wheel looks suspiciously like a bent paperclip. Whatever - its a perfect fit into two grooves milled in the backing piece. A bit tiny to photo but here goes -

The instructions run to 10 pages but are all in German. Fortunately 4 pages are photos and with a bit of care and attention it is pretty easy to work out what goes where.

That looks an excellent kit.. Certainly one-up on Airfix from decades ago..

I seem to remember Nemo has a model of the same truck but I can't remember whether it was kit- or scratchbuilt, certainly a stunner anyway.

That reminds me, I never did get round to doing the pics and review of the TL45 HSB Cabrio wagon that I got a few months back.... must get a round tuit at some point....
You've got one of the KISS versions of the cabrio wagon, haven't you Alan?

Yes Jon, and whilst buying the transfers from Troeger (see the 'Links' section here) for the bike wagon I have got the safety notice transfers for the inside of the Cabriofahrt as well as they are not on the Kiss model.
It was only an additional 4 Euros so a bit of a no brainer really.

Yes, shame I didn't know you were ordering, I could have got a sheet too and we could have halved the postage for both of us!

Still, 5 Euros isn't bad, compared with the places that have a 15 or 20 Euro fixed charge.....

Will it be as awkward (and extra expense) buying from Germany as it is from The States?

the only issue I see is customs duty and VAT, which would be UK based rather than Supplier based. We pay local VAT in Europe anyway and currebtly model railways do not attract Duty - BUT and it's a BIG BUT. - Courier charges for customs!

Having said that, we would probably remain linked to Europe (as is Norway and Switzerland) so maybe personl imports would remain unchanged - good one for Question Time?

When I bought my Dietz railbus from a very nice private seller in Switzerland, he was kind enough to (at his suggestion) take it over the border and mail it to me from Germany, so I didn't have to pay VAT on it - if he'd sent it from Switzerland, I would have been charged VAT on it by Customs (and the "ransom fee" by Parcelfarce). That jolly decent gesture on his part saved me over £200.....

When I sell items (through my business, not private stuff) to customers in Norway or Switzerland, I deduct the VAT as I would to, say, the US or Canada - but the customer may or may not then get billed by his local Customs.

One of my old wagons is going to donate itself.
The kit supplier will sell you one but a full wagon is cheaper on Ebay.
And then some metal wheels - this kits costs seem to be escalating!
