Barclay 2-4-0T converted to battery power

After constructing a bevy of battery locos, I've decided to convert one of my track powered locos to battery power. I opted for the Barclay 2-4-0T (a GRS kitbuild) as this had the most spare space to store the 12v li-ion battery and the Deltang receiver/controller.

I've created a little video showing her carrying out her first full day's duties. She doesn't yet have a sound card fitted (pending) and as she's a very quiet runner (LGB motor block) I decided to dub some suitable sound effects during editing (gathered from my visits to Statfold Barn, Threlkeld Mining Museum Gala and from the Llanfair Gala). Some sounds work better than others but hopefully give the right sort of impression.

The acceleration from standstill makes use of the Deltang Tx inertia control which is not bad. I tend to slow the locos to a standstill on manual control as I can't always work out where each loco will stop when using the inertia control.

What a brilliant, enjoyable video. Thanks.

You have done a fantastic job of synching the sound with the movements.

Are the locos kit builds?

Thanks - not always in synch - but close enough on most of the scenes.

Three of my battery locos are kitbuilds (IP Engineering + this GRS kit) and three are scratchbuilds with LGB and Playmobil motor blocks and one with a scratchbuilt mechanism (see a recent blog posting). From left to right - kit - scratch - kit - scratch

and scratch ......

I also have two DCC kitbuilt locos (GRS) and a scratchbuilt loco - all on LGB Toytrain chassis

A great video Rik. The vegetation on your line looks beautiful and the creek is just great. I bet that deep cutting with the bridge over gets full of leaves though.
Thanks Greg
Not too bad with leaves in the autumn - but through the summer that whole area gets loads of leaves dropping off my neighbour's laurel bushes which overhang my garden which is a ........ pain!

Nice video. And can I ask where you got the coaches - they look excellent in that paint job.

Hi - they were wooden kits from a guy who set up an online shop - the company was Maddison (the guy's name was Mark Addison). After a year or so he gave up making the kits (I think it was about the same time that Brandbright introduced their laser-cut kits).

I blogged their construction here.

So, no longer available, I'm afraid.

The paint is Halford's rattle can spray for Rover Damask Red - which is a good approximation for coaching stock maroon.
