Thanks, but I can't take credit for thinking of using rail. I think I read here on GSC about someone using oo rail in the LGB catenary system possibly in a tram system.

I did think of slotting and using the brass screws and steel rod for supports thou.
Using these driven by a meager budget at the moment and wanting to use up stuff I had laying around.

, the O gauge rail I bought 25 years. When I first tried getting back into railway modelling.
I didn't get far, 1 x O gauge open wagon kit built and 2 bundles of bullhead rail bought at a clearance sale.
Thankfully the rail was found in my last garage cleanup, safely stuck at the back of a offcuts rack inside a offcut of conduit and forgotten all about.

Just like the real railway, a few Network Rail lines here in the UK have a rail rather than wire. Normal in tunnels with little clearance. Thameslink St Pancras spring to mind.

Took advantage of the nice weather today and got some mortaring done.


Removed a big rock at the end of the retaining wall and replaced it with the smaller grey rock. Better view of the trains now.



The rock that was removed ended up on top here, you can never have enough tunnels on a RhB themed railway .
Run out of mortar before I finished this bit, it will have to wait to later on.




All finished on top here so I can start on the mesh planter baskets tomorrow. To fill the gaps and soften up all the rock work.


Still got a bit to go here, this will take a bit of mucking around to get right. At least the big rock is mortared and glued in place now.

A very pleasant, relaxing few hours work done today. To be lucky enough to be outside on a warm sunny day is a real treat.

Yes they are, we got the shade sails already, but have to wait until our budget can cope with the cost of the awning.
That will be attached to the workshop and the shade sails are anchored to at the back.
Hopefully if things workout they will be in next summer, if not then the summer after.
2 slightly overlapping 90% square sails 5.4m x5.4m, should be a nice amount of shade.
The sun is harsh here plastic gets destroyed quickly and its easy to get sunburn.

Yes, our way-up-north summer sun can do much damage. I don’t leave trains sitting out in full sun; I built the train shed to shelter stock from sun as much as rain.

A few enjoyable hours have been spent on the railway, and good progress made.


Snow shelter finished and installed.


Mesh planter made and lined with geo fabric. This one can lift out, for bonsai maintenance or extra tunnel acess.


This one cant lift out as the mesh is under the rocks.



Tunnel portal finished and installed, as its foam its a nice tight push fit into the space.
I might fill the tiny gaps around the edge with mortar, or leave as is and it can be easily removed for extra access into the tunnel.
The planters filled with bonsais, mini conifers and baby tears.
Still 2 mesh planters to make, an easy job for next week.
