After 30 years of modelling in G Scale, I have finally built some baseboards, with a view to screwing down some track and bringing the Claptowte Railway to life. The baseboards are not finished yet. The first issue is that despite counting several time, I under ordered the number of metal alignment dowels required, these will be another week before arrival. Here is a couple of views of the boards and legs waiting to be put together.
It is intended to align all of the boards using locating dowels, the majority of the boards will the be locked together with toggle latches, screwed to the sides of the boards, where these cannot be fitted, where the boards turn the corners, bolts, washers and wing nuts are used. The boards were jury rigged, using various clamps, for these photos, the side latches will not be fitted until the sides have been painted.
Having put the boards all together for the very first time, with the fine weather, I thought I would make a start painting them with a primer coat. I surprised myself by almost finishing them all, I was just left with the top surface of board number 10, before I ran out of paint. Off to the store, tomorrow.
