Is it me or do others think Roundhouse's diesel engine to be a tad over priced? Its more than any of the basic series live steamers, even without sound. I think its a beautifull model, but would rather see Roundhouse rework it to be priced around what thier basic engines cost. In its current form its near what I paid for all my Lady Anne kits. I am not into the whole bashing and scratch building thing right now. maybe once I get a few more years under the belt. For now I have many other things fighting for my attention. I hope RH brings out a more affordable version of that diesel or a whole new one. IP Engineering stuff is nice, but nobody is importing it to the USA. RH stuff is quite easy to get state side. Trying to find a battery powered diesel that I like, that runs on 45 mm track or better yet, is adjustable gauge. My IP engineering Lister is neat looking but 32mm gauge only. Unless someone wants to swap 32mm track for my LGB 45mm stuff. I do want to retrack to 32mm someday. Cheers Mikie
 
I'm inclined to agree, I'm agonising over spending £750 on a second hand version. Even the Essel Harlech Castle is a tad over £700 with rc and sound. I biought a second hand plastic chassis Baguley last week...you get what you pay for! It has sound and rc so even if I add a new chassis (essel) it will still have only cost about £380.
I found a sight last week where someone had a Cricceth Castle and they did say it was the pride of their line so perhaps we need to try one first. They also had roundhouse steam.
I'd also like to go 32mm one day but the thought of relaying and digging the engine shed out of concrete....
 
I am at a point where switching to 32mm would just mean switching my rolling stock from LGB stuff to smaller UK stuff to match the Lady Anne. I have my eye on some IP stuff for the future. I have one of thier timothy timber trucks, but regauged it to 45mm with LGB wheels. I can switch it back as its only lightly glued so I can break it appart. I will probably start saving for a RH diesel this summer. While I would love to have a stable of steamers, there is no real need to. Mike
 
I have never been an Accucraft fan, it does look nice but our family tries to avoid stuff made in the PRC if we can. If I am going to have to drop some $$ on an engine, rather it be a RH one. I wish IP engineering made a 0-6-0 diesel in thier kit range. If I manage to get my 45mm track swapped to 32mm, then I can use my IP Lister diesel. Mike
 
Avoiding the PRC is getting to be impossible if you buy anything electronic!
 
They are an excellent looking and well built as mentioned before and could probably pull a house down . Some of the IP Lister and Simplex model kits are available in 45mm.
 
The Roundhouse Diesel locomotive is simply superb. A well engineered and powerful locomotive. I use mine in a number of roles. Hauling either freight or passenger stock. But primarily for rescuing failed steam locomotives from various parts of the CFR.
 
There is also a smaller brother in the Roundhouse Diesel fleet now.

You have to remember your buying an all metal loco with precision parts made in the UK, with a hard wearing quality paint job.

You don't get that with kits.

I have to say here, that whist the kits are very worthy, the smallest Roundhouse model that I purchased is built like a brick, er, outhouse and makes an idea base for adding one's own detailing. While I am largely live steam I really enjoyed working on this model and it always is with me when I go visiting...
