Hi all.
I see that Piko are now doing the US boxcar wagons. Does anyone have the sizes of these? especialy the width and height? I wondered if they were a new tooling or recycled LGB?
What do we think of them and do they sit well with 1/29th stuff?
Cheers
Rob

Rob,
the Piko cars are the old MDC/Roundhouse 1/32 scale mouldings from many years ago. I have heard the tooling was improved for detail but photographs show the new and old items the same. The one exception is the green 'baggage' car offered by Piko in their 'German' prototype. This is the old 1/24 scale transfer caboose from MDC/Roundhouse. All of the MDC/Roundhouse range were known for their self destructing trucks. The sideframe attachment was very poor. Unless upgraded on the Piko line then expect to find relacement trucks in the future. Piko did not get the multi-bay offset hopper tooling. This was taken up by an American company.

In so far as running with 1/29 scale then there is a marked difference in size. If run with 1/29 scale flatcars/gondolas you may get away with it, however, a forty foot boxcar in 1/29 scale is a lot bigger than a 1/32 scale forty foot boxcar.

Noticing dealers adverts for the PIKO American type boxcars the price attracted me. There seemed to be two or three models available. I looked at the 'photos of them a few times but something made me hesitate to purchase them. ;)
Thank goodness I didn't buy them; I had not realized they were only 1/32 but assumed 1/29 scale.
