Chinese made LGB US coaches derailing

I have five or six white pass and Yukon LGB coaches baggage, combine, etc., and I am having regular problems with derailments. These cars are fitted with LGB wheels hook and loop couplers I have checked each truck to see that the wheels are properly seated , that the plastic on the metal axel is flush against each other, so they are correctly gauged, and that the side frame of the truck freely articulates. On some of these, I have added lgb metal wheels as well as a few ounces in lead weight in an effort to improve tracking.

I have a variety of other LGB US style coaches, D&RG, DSPP, C& S, as well as some of the bachmann spectrum jackson sharp coaches and frieght cars, and don’t have problems with any of them. I am stymied as to why these coaches are derailing . typically, it’s one of the wheels on a bogey.

I don’t know whether there’s any merit to my question regarding Chinese production. To my eye everything looks the same. The only real difference is the difference in weight of the Chinese plastic versus German plastic

Has anyone else experienced this?

My track work is OK, not perfect. FWIW, my longer lgb German style coaches track just fine as do my lgb amtrak and US streamliner coaches.

thoughts ,guidance , tips will be greatly appreciated. The derailments are extremely frustrating.
I know the simple solution is to simply not run them. But I’m curious if I can remedy “the problem”, if any.

typically, it’s one of the wheels on a bogey.

i had derailments on four axle flatcars from chinese Newqida. (with truck-mounted "bottleopener" couplers)

i found out, that the derailings always happened where after a R1 curve came a straight.

repeated observation showed the following:
when a car entered the straight, its rear trucks straightened up - while the front truck of the following car was still aligned for the curve.

i could remedy the problem with a guardrail (partly on the curve and partly on the straight)

Couple of possibilities, one to investigate by taking off the offending bogie and tracking it to where you get derailments to see if you can notice anything with your eye at track level. This could show up an issue. In addition a small Spirit Level on the bogie could show an extreme variation of cant.

Other option may be to put some washers in the gap between the wheel and axle box. Some items need a couple if washers each side others just the one. I have used bulk purchased M3 nylon washers. I get mine from Squires in the UK. At less than £5 uk for a pack of 100 well worth the cost.
 
You mentioned LGB wheels, but are these plastic or metal....
 
1 im running lgb R3
2 most are stock lgb plastic, 2 are lgb metal wheels (all 4 axels on 2 cars). Ill do the level check too.

Im just wondering why my german equivalent equipment isn’t having any issues.

Ill try the bogie swap, bogie eyeball, and washers.
I get derailed on long straight, and on descending curves.

Oh Newquida missed that, all sorts of potential issues. Coupling arms weak and can bend on heavy trains, wheels possibly not correct Gauge plus much lower weight can give running issues. Coupling plastic can bend plus making them ride over each other. Single hooks do not help either. I always have hooks both ends on all stock for reliability. For reliability try to stick with LGB, Piko etc.
 
It’s many a year since I got my Newquida coaches but I did replace the wheels with, I think, Bachmann metal ones. They added weight but also they were a slightly smaller size, so lowered the coaches a bit. I also fixed two long steel strips inside each coach. I removed the coupling and added body mounted choppers. I won’t say they ride perfectly but are pretty good.

Yes, it was Florida. Now Georgia. Moved away from Hurricane Alley.

I still have your 2-6-2, although it’s currently in bits awaiting a spurt of enthusiasm from me once the new line is constructed in the basement.

The one in the photo…..I picked up a non working Bachmann 0-4-0 in a junk shop for $5. Sent it to Bachmann under their lifetime guarantee and in return they sent me a brand new, latest version 2-4-2. It got repainted, as you can see, chipped with sound and DCC, then radio control and battery.

The same thing will happen to yours, eventually. It must be 15 years since you passed it my way.
