Modern freight on the Harz, using rollblock trucks.

Yes I'd heard about the electrification. Pity as I like the diesels, maybe they'll keep some for heritage runs! Pity also about the freight traffic, I always think mixed freight and passenger makes a proper railway.

Don't get me started on how we get fleeced in the UK on the cost of railway infrastructure...

Yes. But the enterprising government is planning to let private enterprise have even more opportunity to get involved with the infrastructure and capitalise on that said opportunity.

80 miilion is still a fair bit for a 32 Km branch line. I assume the overhead is more simple than our western line because of the relatively low speeds.

It all makes the Welsh Highland at a little over £20M look cheap!

When you look at Modern Railway and Road Costs everything everywhere else in the World looks cheep. We are having a small Road Diversion near here to get rid of the Hideous A14 Viaduct over Huntingdon Station. Said Diversion is 12.5 Miles and will cost £1.5 Billion. In the process of this a perfectly good exit from the A1M has been ignored and 3 Miles more of Motorway will be built to the diverted A14.

Nah, that'll be 5 bob

Bit of thread drift here, my fault back in post #20 :-(

So,
Does anybody do a G3 tanker, with transfers, as a load for these to park-up on the Brocken?

Not that I've seen, probably a scratchbuild project. You can cheat and just drop G3 axles in the LGB one like I did ;)

Paul beat me to that comment. However the illusion would be completed with a set of SG Buffers, remove the Centre Buffer and some Chain Link Couplings. A few other minor mods and you pretty well have it sorted. If LGB can have an elastic ruler, why not us. To be fair the difference in size between Metre Gauge Wagons LGB and Standard Gauge ines is not soo much. Here is the Prototype at Brocken in 2011. My mate Rox just emerging from behind Stage Left. The Ruschfuhrer would be about somewhere, probably having a Beer or some Nosh in the Cafe.

So, having looked at the other thread..
Do / did LGB do a version then? - With the lettering, I mean..

We did bid on a rollwagen and tanker at the auction of the late Michael Heaven's stock.. There was one for the 'Harz' layout, but by then Martin had already bought four 2-10-2's and a lot of stock.. I believe it went for silly money as well..
