LGB Feldbahn loco runs hot

I have LGB Chloe and Olomana, same mechanics as the Feldbahn locos. Both fitted with LGB 55022 small loco decoders. Never noticed any heat build up problems, but I don't load them up heavily and they just wander round my line at a suitably gentle speed. The NCE DCC system is running at around 18V.

With any decoder fitted, you can set (as a minimum) a start, middle, and top speed setting. In effect, the track voltage is immaterial, as you can set the top speed to (say) 12V so limiting how fast a loco can run.

I may have to install a 'feldbahn' file from Massoth in a different decoder, and then see if the above settings, or a custom speed-step table have been used. - There do not seem to be any files on the Massoth site for their non-sound decoders. It is up to you to set momentum, and top speed settings.

The voltage to the motor is 22V on DCC Massoth. If you set the top speed setting you are only restricting the pulse width setting not the voltage to the motor.

Well, yes, OK.. But there will still be less power (over time) into the motor, a limited top-speed, and (hopefully) less heat.
