Latest Upgrade..

Checking with Windows Updates, it doesn't seem to offer me the option of Upgrading to IE11.

According to Google Chrome they no longer support Vista either.

Not really sure what to do next ?
Time for a new PC Nigel. You can get quite a decent home machine for about £400.

Oh, BTW, you'll then need a new printer, and maybe a new monitor :D:D:D:D

I got a monitor from Amazon for £60, and a printer from Tesco for £40 :cool:

The new printer allows me to print wirelessly from the lappy as well :nod::nod:

Or, keep your PC and use Firefox.

The 'dire warnings' in Google Chrome, are telling you that they are not going to provide updates for your version anymore..
It won't stop working. Some websites will (already) not display properly, and there will be an ever increasing chance of a 'nasty' getting through.

I get similar warnings on the XP machine my Mum has.

Paul and I have been discussing the 'leave the page' dialogue..
Not wanting to tempt fate, but..
it seems to be OK at the moment!!
Don't tell the software!

Fingers crossed Paul..
Big thank you (I hope!)
PhilP.

Yes, Vista users are in trouble, since Firefox is the only browser that makes sense,

I don't understand Philip's issue with windows 7 and IE 11... that should not happen.

I updated all my win 7 machines to win 10 since it's free and works better, uses less ram, etc.

OK, so we now know what Nigel's problem is.

Philip, what plugins are you using with IE? Do you have Firefox and can you make it happen with firefox?

Can you reset your settings in IE to see if it still happens?

B*gg*r! - It's back again!!

Greg,
I reset IE, deleted all content, cursed as I had to remember all my passwords et-al..

Normal toolbars and extensions.. Bing (shudder) as a search. HATE IT!
XML DOM document (not verified)
Media Player (ditto, don't use it)
Adobe Reader and Flash
A number of Microsoft bits and bobs from Office (some ancient, but disabled)
A couple of iterations of Java

It is quite intermittent.. I DO tend to leave the Forum open in a tab all day on the machine, but sometimes it is as soon as I logon in the morning.
Can go for hours before it happens, then it can be nearly every page.

It seemed OK when I posted above.. Now back again.

This is probably not your issue, but you should only see one version of Java, Java can sometimes not uninstall the older version when upgrading. That WILL cause issues, although I cannot state it is the cause of this particular issue.

Go to java.com... and hit the "remove older versions"... this is not on the top page, it's here, upper right: http://java.com/en/download/installed8.jsp

Very strange, I am now using ie11 exclusively on this site... have not seen that popup... perhaps reset on IE did not change a setting... is there any sequence I can try to reproduce this with?

Greg

Not really Greg.. Since it went 'ping' on going back to the tab after about an hour.. It has been fine..
I regularly used to remove older versions of Java.. Sometimes were 4-5 on a machine.

They are both disabled, and ancient!!

Are ALL your java helpers disabled? That is not good.

There are often 2 almost identical entries for Java. Also by the dates, looks like you need to update java...

Greg

p,s, second day using nothing but IE11 to real all new posts on the forum, no glitches at all..

More of a pattern this morning. - I am way behind reading all New Posts!!
Going FROM a thread to New Posts seems to be fine..
Going FROM New Posts list to a Thread, is giving the error. - Up to three mouse-clicks to get to the Thread..

It was fine for the first few.. Then gets progressively worse.. .. Now appears to be on all navigation FROM New Posts..

C'est la Vie!

I`ve not seen that message at all on here, only on Gmail.

Strange, It sounds like your browser is slow... Java, Flash player all up to date? Current version of Java is version 8, update 92, your Flash player should be at 21.0.0.213

Also since you have windows 7, have you done all the OPTIONAL Windows updates? Most people never look at this.

You seem to have a browser that sometimes does not respond.

Yes Greg, the older desktop is dog-slow at the moment.. Probably time to nuke it and re-load??

Am on a W7 laptop, and getting similar results at the moment..
Did a Broadband speed-test, and I have lost some download speed. - 15 point something.. Should be 25 plus. Might be time to have a moan at my ISP.. .. ..

latency is also important, when you click on something and the web site will send you something and your computer does not respond in time, you can get timeouts... symptoms are like you click something and the "click" is "lost".

Did you take a look at the optional updates? Got to windows update and see how many are out there...

I get a Windows 10 failed (very possibly because my Windows 7 is a NFR copy??)
Optional, are:
Skype (never use it, so will not install)
and.. KB's:
2830477
3080079
3102429
3140245

I will install these when I finish this session..

Sounds good... also if you are intending to update to windows 10, I might be able to help, have installed it about 40 times so far, and sometimes you need a bit of preparation before trying the update.

As long as your windows 7 is activated (registered with Microsoft) you should be able to do the update, but a VERY sanitary system really helps the update.

Feel free to email me privately if you wish greg@elmassian.com

Thank you Greg.. You may come to regret the offer! ;):(

Of course, having done the optional updates.. It is now downloading updates for the updates!!

I need to whip the side off the machine.. I am hoping it is 'new' enough (a relative term) to accept a SSD.. Idea is to put the OS on a brand-new SSD, with a new second drive for the data.

That way I can 'pull' the original drive, and still have a way back to a working (if slow) machine, if it all goes pear-shaped (fails big-time).

The 'leave the page' dialogue is across a number of machines.. All are using IE, one is windows 10, the others Windows 7..
Must be a IE problem, or 'something' within my profile on the Forum?? - Three differing anti-virus products, so no commonality there.

Phil,

Try changing the profile (look of the forum) to UI.X see if it still happens on that view, then change back to Xenith
