Latest Upgrade..

All of my photographs loaded to my albums in Media are now flagged with multiple tags.

David

Well, with the lack of a proper reply to my query on this thread, I have now tagged my Ox Mountain Railway as "Bachmann and Scratchbuild trams". I thought the tags referred to individual photos. I just thought I'd do my bit - but how wrong was I?

If any moderator sees this could they remove the tag I created please?

ALSO, WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER (FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME) TO RECEIVE SOME INFORMATION ON THESE UPDATES, IMPROVEMENTS, ETC, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF GOING DOWN A PARTICULAR ROAD?

I am most peeved at the ambivalent attitude that prevails sometimes. If you run an IT company or repair computers, there's an absolute certainty that you'll understand what it is all about but I do not! And I'm sure I am not by myself!

Mods feel free to delete the above two paragraphs or the lot if you want!

If you think 'train' people are odd..
You ought to hang about with a few programmers for a while!!;)

I am sure they do not think the same way as ordinary mortals??
;):giggle::giggle::giggle:

To be fair to Paul, a lot of these 'features', he will not know about until after the event.. I expect most (if not all) the changes are due to security updates, and so-called bug fixes.
The software will be so complicated, with many people working on it, I doubt every change is fully documented.

Paul also provides the hardware, software, and his time and services for 'free'. - We do not pay to be in this 'club'.
I, for one, am very grateful. We can let-rip, with our British sense of humour, without offending most of the time.. The American-based Forums do not share our British sense of humour, and you have to think twice before posting ANY 'witty' comment, for rear of offending.. The most minor thing can end with a (verbal) set of cruise missiles heading your way!

Some years ago I told everyone I was going to be a comedian.... they are not laughing now....

Yes you are right what you say Phillip - and I know that if I live to be 100, I will not fully understand the 'ins and outs' of computer programming. Can you not sense my frustration? To me, tags are a label or an epidermal abnormality.

So in the label category, we'll come back to to the unanswered question re; file names. Does my own file name for a pic (or squence of same) constitute a Tag for Google, or does this have to be added in addition? When someone posts a pic I am able to read the poster's name for his/her pic. Isn't Google capable of this?

I tried to, retrospectively (as David did in Media), alter my Ox Mountain Railway thread. So the first pictures, I "tagged" with a correct description of them. Doh! That's it!

I can only think that posting a selection of photos (of different object/subjects) and tagging them means they are all tarred with the same brush! To Tag a photo means you can only post one for theat pictures correct nomenclature.

And I do appreciate the site, the sense of humour, etc - those aspects outweigh my inability to deal with changes which are not explained. I'm only looking for answers - I'm sorry if some of my questions seem rather flippant

Mick,

You are 100% correct, and in future I will endeavour to keep everyone informed of any changes as and when they are made, either by me, or by a system upgrade.

Paul

As regards to Tags etc on posts and on pictures that is just there to help google correctly identify the page, and help people that are searching for eg Bachmann Thingy, then there is a good chance they will get to us.

an image file name of DSC1199.jpg is meaningless, but i have no intention of renaming all my images before i upload them, so putting in a brief description and tags just makes life easier for all.

Also personally when viewing a picture, it would be nice if there was some text that said what it is, so adding "USA Trains GE11 @ Paul and Lisa's railway open day" is just more meaningful, yes some will know what the loco is, but others won't

Thanks for your reply Paul - sorry for being a pain the posterior.

Yes I do mean the very latest update.. Probably..

I applaud being kept abreast of said update, but am not so sure about locking the thread??

A number of us are reporting that we are getting 'do you want to leave this page' dialogues since this upgrade.. Sometimes more than one acknowledgement is necessary to move on.

I even had this on my session just. - Computer has been off for a couple of hours, and on clicking the New Posts link, having only just powered-up and logged in, I got said message.

TIA,
PhilP.

Well I like the latest upgrade. I love the functionality provided under 'Forums You Ignore'. I now don't have to see anything posted in the Coffee Lounge. Brilliant.

I think I might like another one for "persons you ignore"!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Wazzocks, the ignore facility was already available simply by drifting your mouse west and waiting a second or two. Click, gone. But now we have a reminder at the top of the page that there are ignored and, er, ignorable bits. Where's the point?
To be honest, besides my deviant hobby ways and equally despite my not being in agreement with certain members there is no one on my blocked list. I want to know about the hobby, I want to know how everyone feels about the hobby, but above all else I want to give help and positive input to the members of this hobby.
Mmf, nrgh, help me get down off this hobby horse, will you?

i think I'll ignore your deviant hobby Pugs!

I don't know how you survive without a daily dose of mindless drivel and useless weather updates :think::think:

I think I might have to take a fence, a wicket gate, and a small potting shed, at that remark..

TO GET BACK TO THE TOPIC....

Any input form 'those in the know' about the asking permission to leave the page, when going to from topics?

My theory is that some of the inserted adverts are doing something a little nasty to things.. But hey, what do I know??

I think I might have to take a fence, a wicket gate, and a small potting shed, at that remark..

I would have you know that I do my fair share............................

...........................and contribute regularly to the inane drivel etc etc

BTW - the new upgrade's working fine for moi :emo::emo::emo::emo:

the adverts are all google ones, but i would never click on a driver missing advert.

I have AdBlock Plus running all the time and note that the only ad I see is the small Massoth Garden Rail Outlet at the bottom right of a page. As an experiment I turned off AdBlock and one smallish advert appeared at the bottom relating to a search I did on Google for sheds. I commend those who run this wonderful site for not allowing loads of ads to spoil it for those who do not run ad blocking software unlike many others I have come across.
