Ahhh the old scale question :rolf: Trying to keep it simple:

All g gauge track is interchangeable yes, pointwork and everything. Now you probably will anyway, but it's best to stick to the main suppliers i.e. LGB/Piko/Aristocraft so you keep the same rail profile which is 332. When you started mixing other makes of track (like Tenmille among others) there starts another rail profile of 250 which is a lot thinner and wouldn't stand up to walking on/constant moveing sections.

As for scale, LGB is a scale of 1:22.5. But G as a scale ranges from 1:19th to 1:29th. When your looking for figures, working around a scale of 1/24th is about right, or as was mentioned the other day, a figure should be just a little under the height of a bank card.

It's my impression that LGB tend to vary the scale so that overall most stuff looks ok when run together - in terms of height and width.
That's another good point mentioned. With LGB, a lot of loco's/rolling stock they aren't actually true 1:22.5 scale models of the real thing, with LGB it's a case of it looking proportional as much as being accurate scale models.

:thumbup:I think the lgb scale question is a bit of a can of worms then:bigsmile: im only going to be running narrow gauge items anyways so a bit of artistic licence is going to be used .

thanks for the replys regarding the track Q , think its best sticking with lgb then it is nice and sturdy stuff

I think its best to say the LGB track we've had outside for the last few years definately holds up the best, seems to clean up easier than the Aristocraft too. Ofcourse don't limit yourself to just LGB, if you find some Piko/Aristocraft track at good second hand prices then it's all very good. Although if your buying new track then Aristocraft seems to have shot up in price over the last 6 months. It was cheaper than LGB at around £5 a foot but it appears to have jumped up to over £7

Ive got new but ive just won some curves and stright, LGB for good prices on evil bay .
Also just been to the booty today and piced this little lot up for ......................

No personal experience of them, but when you start using a track cleaning block you realise that you need to apply quite a bit of pressure to get the rails clean, so you would have to make a wagon extremely heavy to get the same result which wouldn't be such a good idea. Others may have a more positive review of them though?

I had a go at cleaning some second hand rail i got with a old peco track rubber and it took some cleaning . whts the lgb item made of?

I think its a hard rubber, impregnated with a grinding grit of some type, peeps
on here will have more info.
Bbut they are the best way of cleaning old track up by far, with out damaging it.
Do not be tempted to use any abrasive of any kind, even invisible scratches can
cause problems in the long run.
I have a number of the under wagon pad cleaners, a Stainz will just about pull a single well waited 4 wheel wagon on level track, couple of laps round is usefull for quick clean before each running session but does not clean dirty track.
(Except when you get called away and forget it is running 5hours later track was shiny bright)
I might have an old spare one some where you can have as a try out, but i don't think they will fit all LGB wagons.
I'll have a look tom and let you know.

Ok cool thak rob just need a wagon to fit it to and il be away . might see if theres any lgb rolling stock at grosmont and get one instead of track .

Jim - the track cleaning pads are mounted on a base unit the fits
under certain LGB 4 wheel wagons. if memory serves i'm not sure if
Grosmont has much LGB stock, not any showing on their web site?
Might be worth looking out for a 2nd hand wagon for the track cleaner
as it would tend to be only used for that purpose to fiddly to keep
removing the unit as it screws on.

Il keep my eye out on evilbay for a wagon for cleaning dutys no lgb stock on grosmonts site so looks like il be just on track tomorrow

Jim
