Ahhh the old scale question

All g gauge track is interchangeable yes, pointwork and everything. Now you probably will anyway, but it's best to stick to the main suppliers i.e. LGB/Piko/Aristocraft so you keep the same rail profile which is 332. When you started mixing other makes of track (like Tenmille among others) there starts another rail profile of 250 which is a lot thinner and wouldn't stand up to walking on/constant moveing sections.
As for scale, LGB is a scale of 1:22.5. But G as a scale ranges from 1:19th to 1:29th. When your looking for figures, working around a scale of 1/24th is about right, or as was mentioned the other day, a figure should be just a little under the height of a bank card.
