HSBA Garden Railway

Last weekend was Liberation 80. The whole island was out to celebrate in the various parishes with different events. St. Mary's Parish (where I live), had a big fair for locals - archery, tugs of war, free bbq, dog shows and I was invited to bring some trains down. Any excuse to get a layout down.

It seemed to be a hit and had lots of keen viewers (young and young at heart) throughout the day. It was 3 loops, laid on the grass with the inner loop running a starter set with a bit of track which the kids could control.

Weather was beautiful and I spent most of the afternoon sat on the grass, chatting with friends, drinking a beer while the trains went round.

Hi Curtis! Have you progressed on your automation yet?

I am big in to automation with iTrain but I'm struggling understanding which hardware will work with LGB/Large scales on my existing loconet.

Here's a couple of videos of my automation just for some fun

Ok, I might be asking the bleedin' obvious but what's making the "slappety slap" sounds, given your stated ove of automation ? Sounds like you have raided an old telephone exchange for some Strowger kit.

Just wondering why none of the express services stop at the station.

That is the solenoid point motors changing, every time iTrain selects a route, it changes the points one by one every 300ms along the route instead of all at once to avoid a sudden huge power draw.

It was a great question, not that obvious!

My late Father-in-Law designed an automated system in the '60s. He wasn't actually interested in trains, it was the automation, in the early years of computing that interested him.

He had a large oval of track with a figure of 8 crossover going through the middle (that's how he described it to me) and he used Trix Twin locos, as they did not have worm drive, so would slow rather than dead stop when the power cut off.

He simply had it with two trains going round the various route options, but never colliding. I didn't see it in action because he built it at college (his place of work) before his good looking daughter showed any interest in me :inlove:
