Laying grass today. It's important that I credit WWScenics who have videos on their website on how to get a rough look. First step, mask the edge of the area to be covered so the spray glue used later doesn't go in the wrong place.

View attachment 265944

Brush on some glue (thinly is important) and lay 2 mm static grass. But before it has dried, scrunch it up with fingers. yes, it looks a mess.

View attachment 265946

Cover with spray glue (now you know why I masked it earlier) then add some 4mm long grass.

View attachment 265947

The tuft in the foreground is actually grass stuck onto masting tape covering the fouling marker.

Spray more glue on and add some 6 mm static grass.

Let all the glue dry, remove the masking tape and hoover up and loose bits. The result ....

I think that was a successful day. work tomorrow.
The grass looks fantastic, wondering whether to replace my lawn with it........I wonder if it's weather proof:nerd:

Thanks, Paul. I hope its not weatherproof, our ‘garden’ is a concrete yard which the wife would like as a lawn!

Earlier I was asked for photos to show the whole layout. Below are two panorama pics which I hope help. The obvious gap is for the lift out section which contains a crossover.

The area below the window sill has not been started yet. The low relief buildings behind the station are in the wrong place. The will actually be part of the backscene on the inside of the layout, but I can’t do that until the timber merchant reopens.

Following Henri’s lead, I’ve spent this week weathering 5 wagons, 2 coaches and a brake van. Luckily it all went well and they no longer have the ‘out of the box’ toy look. My wife said ‘oh, but they look old and worn’ which is what I was trying to achieve. Three pics.

Next for the treatment are a railcar and two diesel locos. After that, if I’m brave, three steam locos.

Having got some metal wheels following everyone’s advice, I also got a couple of LGB axles with pick-up. I’ve used these to put lights in my brake van (is that what its called?). The phots below show how it was done. Unlike my coaches which use accessory decoders to turn the lights on and off, the brake van has a much simpler and cheaper method, a on/off switch which can be reached when the doors are open.

It is called a Gepäckwahen and acts as an Office for the Train Captain and also for carrying anything that does not go into the coaches this could be luggage but also less than Van Loads of Goods. Cannot find a translation that tells me what Perleberg/1989 means but I would guess either modified or built. There are or were 9 of them 905-150 to 158.

I had originally considered a similar conversion to yours but with cables to other vehicles in the set to give them lights as well. But as I never run at night and now that I am have battery powered locomotives that was a project that got canceled by the DfT as “not worth doing”, for me that is. Nice job.

Dry day and day off, so got out in the garden and made a start on weathering the diesel fleet. Still lots of work to do before they are finished.

Excellent job on the 2091, apart from the coupling hook it could be a picture of a real loco.

I suspect the catenary is not LGB but some other make or scratch built.

Thanks for the kind word. You are correct, catenary ins’t LGB, it’s on my other garden railway, the London - Glasgow main line!

Just realised where you are! Spent the last 30 odd years passing your house on the way north, wonder if Notwork Fail will let me stop for a brew and alook at your handy work?
