I Have three of these little locos. two finished diesel units built basically as provided in the kit and one with a longer modified chassis for a railbus. More or less followed the lead of one of the guys off one of the forums to hack across and extend the chassis. Have also a acquired few kits of the hardware basic engineering bits and pieces to build several more. Changing the soft motor worm for an all metal drive has increased the noise but will hopefully reduce the wear.
Now busy building Mr Binnie slates, skips and a couple of sets of bogie bolsters ready to run with the HGLW rolling stock to provide a couple of rakes.

Hi Roy,
The nylon worm should last well. If they are wearing it usually means they are not aligned correctly.
Ensure the brass gear is central to the worm. If there is an amount of play equalise it between forward and reverse.
Also make sure the gears are not too tight. Slacken the motor back a tiny amount.
My demo loco has done many hours without appreciable wear on the worm once properly set up.
It may be worth slackening back the brass replacement worm you have to help with the noise.
In the old days it was suggested to place a fag paper between the gears.

That's a very neat looking piece of work. Presumably it's running or not and only forwards.

Now that would nicely round off this topic - a completed setup with R/C. As for painting, how about grey for everything, just using primer and maybe a satin varnish finish. (Have other people noticed that primer is so much easier to use than paint itself and that you always end with a nice, spot and dust free finish?)

My new train runs as well as possible but only forward. It's a little bit slower than my Bachmann stuff (who runs on 20 volts). The HGLW loco and rolling stock hate my Piko switches and I don't know why. Christmas is on its way, so I'm looking for a few new wagons and maybe the new loco...
And the most important: I'm very happy with my new train !
