H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Kaitaki has been the main stay of late as I learn and run in the new loco. It sure is harder to photograph live steam...you can tell if they aren't moving

But as I get the hang of the RC and the way the loco works...

Closer...

It's great fun listening as it barks (thanks to a Summerlands Steam chuffer pipe) up hill.

Nina's Testle has needed a little bit of adjusting after near 6 years of growth of the adjacent silver birch. Nothing major and after a bit of repacking ballast on the uphill approach track a more even climb has been restored, all be it a tad steeper than it used to be!
IMG_7286.JPG

An of course lots of testing will be needed to ensure it was a good job:thumbup:
IMG_7286.JPG

testing good , you really carnt test too much..:love:

Lovely pics of a brilliant railway

Yippee, after a number of false starts due to weather and families duties the sun finally got to shine on the railway AND a train
Main activity was Manawanui which I need to test a new lever on the reverser as I make slow progress on fitting RC to it.

Sun was at a good angle to capture some steam coming up grade over Nina's Trestle....
IMG_7444.JPG

...over the embankment past the school....

And a log's eye view.
IMG_7429.JPG

Down grade now, and back into the sun....
IMG_7427.JPG

soon to pass under the Truss Bridge and under the Lemon Bush

The Climax got a run as the sun went down...
IMG_7454.JPG

but with a woolly hat and a warm coat I beat the cold for a while, having to much fun to go inside.
Climax on Nina's Trestle before it got dark, is the last picture for the day:wave:

Lovely John. It's funny but reading your end of the day reports from NZ always spur me on to do something on my railway at the beginning of the same day here in Florida!

Great cross-time zone inspiration.

Thank you.

June update following a couple of hours today to do some testing. (And hopefully Martino spurring you to some Sunday running too ;) )
Manawanui now has radio control on the reverser and whistle. It's ready for RC on the reverser when the servo for it come off "backorder" :impatient: So some serious testing is now needed.
IMG_7529.JPG

Sounding the whistle sends a plume of steam from an odd place as we toot approaching the Bridge Gangers Hut, but it sounds okay . Not wonderful but okay if I keep the steam pressure up towards 40PSI (the whistle is in the drivers side tank ) .
IMG_7530.JPG

Not loud enough to frighten the dog though
IMG_7531.JPG

And on up over Nina's Trestle
IMG_7532.JPG

Down over the level crossing, after sounding the whistle of course:bigsmile:
IMG_7533.JPG

No-one run over, though it's so quite around here it's very unlikely to meet anything at the level crossing:rolleyes:
IMG_7534.JPG

Decent is now well controlled with the new fangled RC I can get three pictures in a row!
IMG_7535.JPG

Running the logs up hill!
IMG_7539.JPG

Would be risky business it the train wasn't down to a crawl
IMG_7540.JPG

Bursting out of the top tunnel into Punga Cliffs station. Though can you burst at an industrial pace:admire:
IMG_7543_2.JPG

Downhill again without frightening the horses.

Swinging round under the Lemon Bush and....

into the final approach to Kakariki station.

Time now to for our new Leader prepared. Most of the bits are now to hand for body rebuilt and then offically named Kaitaki,

The usual photo spot out of the bottom tunnel.

Steadily uphill over Nina's Trestle...

But not to fast to not get pictures in dim winter light.
IMG_7551.JPG

A good day for trains, and especially good for steam plumes:thumbup:
IMG_7552.JPG

Marvellous pictures , I can almost smell the oil & hear the burners :thumbup:

Thanks Garry. Good thing is with an air control ring on the Regner it's pretty quite now. And I seem to have got a good burner on the Leader, with it set so the safety not blowing it's not as anywhere near as loud as some I've heard. :)

Thanks everyone

A lovely, and unexpectedly fine calm day so what else should one do when blessed with such a nice winter day - run trains
IMG_7557.JPG

and a bit further up hill
