H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Like the night-time shots - gives yet another dimension to an already wonderful line:thumbup:

Yippee a steam up when the sun was still up today...
IMG_6813.JPG

Still need more practice capturing a moving steamie and get visible steam...
IMG_6811_2.JPG

Guess that is something to look forward too in the coming winter, better steam effects:bigsmile:
Though with a slight bit of retouching to dog out a distracting kitchen window in the distant background, the picture below give the feel of the evening

We had a couple of days of late where it felt as if winter was already here! But also a few good ones as we hold grimley onto the hope of a summer lost :crying:

Busy around the log loading siding...
IMG_6842.JPG

...and down at Kakariki station Manawanui's safety lifts while awaiting the Dubs to clear the main line.
IMG_6844.JPG

Manawanui heading up hill as the Dubs A is pushing her train into the sawmill siding - I though sawn timber was suppose to leave the mill not come to it. Oh maybe it's timber to finally built the phantom mill.:impatient:
IMG_6849.JPG

The Simplex hasn't done much work, it's still shifting those same log bogies and it's Manawanui's turn to pass!
IMG_6847.JPG

Slow enough climbing the hill for a study on Nina's trestle.
IMG_6850.JPG

General view over H&M's farm into Punga Cliffs.
IMG_6854.JPG

Through Kakariki again....
IMG_6860.JPG

and up the hill again...
IMG_6857.JPG

Lots of agains, just how I like it:rolf: And cooling after a run at Kakariki station as the Simplex finally is moving those logs.
IMG_6886.JPG

So for this last bracket we'll follow the Simplex around (again).
Down past the Bridge Gangers hut...
IMG_6883.JPG

Sun filtering through the (lemon) bush to the fern forrest floor (in my imagination) ;)
IMG_6889.JPG

Uphill about to pass the famed level crossing and cattle stops :bleh:
IMG_6893.JPG

Downhill over Nina Trestle...
IMG_6902.JPG

and around the final curve at before crossing the human path to H&M's playhouse and entering the approach to Kakariki.

That's all for this bracket, hope you like them:bigsmile:

Like a delicious warm balm,
The pictures just soothe and calm,
Like a good red wine
The layout improves with time
Like the whispering summer breeze
The trains slip by at ease

A very goodly batch of new shots there John

Thanks Martino & Mike. Gosh I'm now embarrassed, but never thought the railway would evoke poetry. You guys are making me try harder and harder to find just that right picture!

John, I think I will just throw my camera away as you get great shots which ever way you shoot your line!

Oh rest assured Mike there are an fair number of awful shots that get a very short life before meeting the delete button, let along the rejects that have a slightly longer life on the computer. Hmm, is it safe to admit I take more pictures of garden railways than I do of the family:love:, something I feel a bit guilty about:nail:.

Absolutely beautiful, a real pleasure to behold, thank's for sharing with us:clap:

Isn't it just. This is one of my all time favourite railways ? stacks of general atmosphere and of course a proper Kiwi railway (or bush tramway). I am very pleased to learn that John has caught my addiction to steam and am looking forward to seeing what will be done with the latest acquisition (whoops :admire:- have I let the cat out of the bag???)

I would love to have the same experience on my line. John's use of steam on such an atmospheric layout will just look superb. I am so envious John, as my gradients would cause all sorts of problems for a lovely steamer.

Where's the smiley for embarrassment :-8|

No pictures today but a wee 1 minute Youtube job fro Saturday morning when I was testing a slight modification done on the cylinder (steam motor) mounting on Manawanui. The steam plume was too good not to share, so I grabbed the phone. It's not flash filming but it was fun. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-gS...LAND, NZ IMPORT SCAN Can you guess?;)

John what everyone else said, magical. I agree with Tag this is no doubt one of favarite RR's My wife tells me the same, I take more pictures of the RR then my family. Then yet whenever I try to take pictures of my family, they run away. The trains never run away though Lol. You have to love digital cameras. Ill take 50 photos and get 10 that are good if Im lucky.
Dont let the winter stop you from taking pictures keep them coming. As you go into winter we will be going into summer so you will able to enjoy our summer photos.
What are winters like in your part? Any snow? I bet your layout would look nice with a blanket of snow.

It doesn't snow in Wellington, except for this once in a lifetime event last year.
