H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Make the most of it John - winter's coming

:impatient: Only on the calender, Met Office is forecasting another two months of warmish weather, and a mild winter.

Hi Shawn. Gav could be right, but then again I told H&M to make the most of the falling snow last winter as it won't last, "it never snows and settles for long in Tawa". Two days later we made more snow men and it snow again the next day. Nothing on the railway though to the extend of your winter snow pictures, maybe this winter:bigsmile:

Oh yes, I took more photos of H&M in the snow than trains in the snow:love:

Found this photo of last winters snow on the railway for you Shawn, not quite train running light fluffy snow, wasn't cold enough (cold for us though).

A great warm sunny autumn day, perfect for trying out a new live steamer.

Was quite intending to get a second steamie at this time, but with the current price of the Accucraft Leader I would have been mader than I am not too:confused:

The Dubs A got to run between steamings, still my favourite loco

The Leader steamed well, will need to fit radio control in the first round of modifications, but very pleased regardless.

Until I fit RC the Leader will help with fitness - running up and down stairs operating the manual regulator!

And after a couple of steamings the Simplex ended the day.

So simple yet so much fun to run.

Super pictures, a lovely way to start the day. the Leader looks right at home. I might have to get myself one of those, but then I say that about every steamer. :rolf:

Very nice again John. I'm impressed with your steamers. I feel one may be in my future when I complete the second reverse loop. However, with our climate here in NW Florida, I'll never come close to the Kiwi atmosphere of your line.

John - lovely to see a snowy picture! Also interesting development with another live steamer :) It's quite a big model compared to your rolling stock, are you going to tinker with the bodywork?

Very nice. I love your photos. You do have a natrual helper with your climate as everything ends up looking green making it feel as thought the railway is very much in the landscape.

Hi James, yes it was some what unplanned, well this quick after the Regner anyway. And yes it is quite bulky but I have some cunning plans to reduce the cab height by at least 10mm and a new saddle tank plus a few sundry aftermarket items. Oh and a bit of weathering to suit being in the bush. It will hopefully take on a chunky workhorse look in theory hauling wagons loaded with timber from the mill. When "theory" is not in use I'll just play and dream

Not a very good video, luckily you can't hear the bits where SWMBO was laughing at her daft husband running around the garden endeavouring to keep a manual live steamer under control and shoot video with the iPhone.

The trial steaming has satisfied me with radio control I will have a nice responsive steamer and able to keep it under control downhill all a slower speed than the video. If not I'll keep fit chasing it around:rolf:

Things worked well today, the sun shone and visitors from Church came around to see the railway in operation. Didn't take piccies till after the guess left, so no pictures of Manawanui in action but here are a few others as I took as I prepared to reluctantly pack up for the day.

Dubs A of course was run

Was busy at Kakariki...

Though busy on the H&MGR is a loose description on a sunny day
IMG_7001.JPG

Two small trains in action is full on busy.

simply perfect john,

Just one picture from today, was daydreaming in the sun for too long! Then cooking tea on the barbque while the Bush Jigger continued to circulate as the sun went down, so it was only one picture or burn sausages

A bit of experimenting today with some HO flextrack for a possible fence around the school yard. It's only temporarily pinned in place, but I'm happy enough with the look to proceed with the idea. Director Hannah tells me we need to move the school house further back and install some play equipment. A good idea.

Fence look better the further away you get. :nerd:

As they say...watch this space:laugh:

It's almost a month since the last update, and a busy month it has been.
A lot of time was spent learning about then fitting Radio Control into the new Leader (aka Kaitaki). So so excited on the first test after fitting RC I forgot to reset the camera settings after some inside work. So the pictures a bit washed out, shows I do take bad photos - the ones you don't normally see:rolf:

And starting to climb under the lemon.

Then uphill and across the level crossing.

All this was as we got ready to host the WGRG running afternoon, recorded here http://www.gscalecentral.net/m208098 < Link To Wellington Garden Railway Group at Tawa
Final preparations being testing track power with the trusty LGB work horses. (hehe camera setting corrected now:Looser: )
