BIG coal fired loco

Does anyone have any ideas about this? It was found by a work colleague in his grand fathers attic after he had died. it is about 3.5 inch gauge and the tender on its own weight a lot. It appears to be a coal fired live steamer but has some damage on it possibly from a fall.

The pictures were taken on my Iphone but I'll try to get some better shots next week

If its a kit there may be a makers name under the tender.....

It's a Midland Compound :love: it's coal fired, the tender at one time held water that was pumped into the boiler, there was a water leak from the junction of the pipe on the right hand side of the boiler, the cab roof is missing, water seems to have been left in the boiler judging from the appearance of the sight glass. It is a wreck and in need of being rebuilt.
I am no expert but I would put it on ebay and sell it that way , unless you know of somebody who will do the necessary work for you and I would say it's worth whatever anyone will pay for the poor thing:brokeheart:

Have a word with these people http://www.stationroadsteam.com/ . They seem to be the pedominant dealer in this market and should be at the Midland Model Engineering Exhibition in a couple of weeks time. They could probably help you with its provenance.

Thanks for all this feedback. I'll let him know about the Bournemouth engineers. Littledown is only a short distance from us. I'll have a better look at it next week and get some more pictures to post.

It's not a Maisie, that was a GNR 4-4-2. It's a Midland Compound, as Garry says. Pretty rough, even when new. Probably quite old. I wouldn't like to steam it.

My dad has a Maisie which is the GNR Atantic as Fairlie has said not sure who made the Midland compound it looks as if it's scatch built . My uncle had a Dorris which i think was a Black 5.

Maisie, was a 3.5 inch Great Northern D 4-4-0. tender engine, subsequently published in book form, Model Engineer, 1935.
Designed by LBSC (Curly Lawrence). Plans may still be available from Reeves, Model Engineer Supplier.
The book should also be available from various sources.
