WANTED - MTS fitted KOF Loco with Remote Uncouplers

I'm looking for one of these for Hardyard, my portable exhibition layout.

At the moment if I want to shunt a wagon, uncoupling is done with 'the big hand in the sky'. This looks unrealistic to the punters.

So I'm looking for one of KOFs with the remote uncoupling facility, preferably MTS fitted, but I might consider an analogue one.

I can swap for a yellow KOF plus cash adjustment if required?

Gizzy being the tight ar**s i am have you thought of this
remove all couplings and replace with thin metal plate
when depoisting wagon/s in siding just push into place
when recovering a wagon from siding stick a magnet to metal plate of loco when in the tunnel
out of tunnel upto wagon and pull back into tunnel
etc etc

Good idea Tony, but I have plans for the layout to demonstrate digital control of locos, points and signals. Control of couplings via MTS is another aspect of this idea....

Good idea Tony, but I have plans for the layout to demonstrate digital control of locos, points and signals. Control of couplings via MTS is another aspect of this idea....

Ok then can you wire an electro magnet into the lighting circuit so when the rear lights work the magnet works

It's feasible I guess mate, but I'm pushed for time and I have too many things on the go as it is!

Hoping to find a 23900 Kof before the Brandon Exhibition next month....
 
These locos have always been a bit touchy. They need a lot of "tuning" to get them working correctly but with a bit of patience they are great.
There are 3 in my fleet. The red one was an old Duo fitted with a ESU sound decoder. This was examined by Wolfgang Richter at a G Rail exhibition & the Blue MTS was brought out a few years later. (I'm still waiting for my sample).
The blue one I bought new & that needed a bit of tuning before it worked OK.
The Yellow one I bought second hand & changed the body. This was sold as perfect but needed a fair bit of adjustment to get it to work satisfactorily.
To get realistic shunting CVs 3 & 4 (Acceleration & Brake) were set at 50 & CV5 (max speed) set at 65. To get good slow running the rubber tyre wheel needs to be replaced with a proper wheel. One of mine had different colour wheels on opposite sides for a time but you had to be clever to notice.

It is weathered but is in full working order.

How about you bring it to run on Hardyard at Brandon, Suffolk on 13 Aug Philip?

Just up the A11 after Mildenhall.... :thumbup:

I may well take you up on that offer Gizzy. I can't promise though as we are looking to book a last minute holiday so I may be away (SWIMBO works at a school so we have to go during school hols). I will PM you nearer the time to let you know if I am coming.
 
I shied away from the digital version. I had three analogue versions, from new and each one did not function as designed. I had to disassemble all three sets of uncoupler mechanisms to fintetune to ensure reliability. I was not even going to try with a digital version.

The red 21900 model is the analogue version, so it probably has been 'converted' to digital as described Jon.

Waiting to hear from P&S about the 23900 blue one that they have....

Doesn't list the decoder fitted to my yellow Kof Bruce, originally from the MTS Starter Set? I guess this is a LGB 55021 small decoder.

Maybe something to consider though, thanks....
 
The LGB decoders do not have servo function outputs as far as I know. I have a yellow Köf from the large digital start set that I plan to install sound in, using the Massoth S-decoder. This decoder has one servo output function. Adding a 6V regulator from Massoth to power a servo, I can havean automatic uncoupler at the rear of the loco.

If you do not need or want sound, the 8FL decoder from Massoth and the 6V regulator, a servo and a the Fertig hook/look uncoupler is all you need.
 
Gary , Have you heard of memory wire ? It's an SMA - smart metal alloy - check this link for a bit of info, can't remember where I saw it for sale but somebody might have used it. It uses needs alow voltage feed and draws about 200ma, a given length will[strike] "grow"[/strike] shorten by 3.5% as the temp hits 70c. It is used on smaller scale layouts for point and signal operation. Take a look.

I would expect it to have a "LGB small onboard decoder" which is technicaly equivilent of a 55021.

You could allways add a Massoth eMotion 8FL which can handle (with a regulator circuit) 2 servos.
