I have just been trying to set up a You Tube account - very frustrating and so far unsuccessful. First, You Tube tells me that 2 user names associated with my e-maill address already exist - I am a single person, the sole occupant of this house and nobody has accsess to my (2)computers and I have never even speculativly tried to set up an account in the past.
I thought I had this sorted by going through the forrgotten username/password reset routine then when I try to sign in to You Tube it says I need to open a Google account - Guess what it says ? - there are other Google accounts associated with my e-mail address. See previous for my incredulity.
Their so called help section is of no use and going to their user forums looking for the answers just confirms my suspicions - there is no obvious resolution and no handy link to report the issue (unlke facebook where I had the same problem recently when I tried to open an account there which they swiftly resolved) Am I missing something here ?
Anybody had this problem and know a way thruogh it or can offer any alternative video sharing site providers. Shame as I have just taken the plunge and bought a camcorder after seeing all the wonderfull productions shared here and would like to post some of my own garden "railroad".
Max.

Set up a hotmail email account, use that to register for a YouTube account.

Thanks Keith, I have set up a Hotmail account.
I will have a look around at the weekend to see how hot mail works and try to set up the you Tube/Google related accounts to it.
I assume that these can both be related to the same Hotmail address, or do they have to relate to separate e-mail addresses. If the latter I think will just not bother with You Tube/Google as it will get too complicated trying to sign on each time. Alternatives to You Tube ?

Good luck with the setup and looking forward to seeing your video

I don't have a problem with YouTube/Google, but this recalls memories of trying to set up a Yahoo account to use the 16mm eGroup. Of the several failed Yahoo ID's, one turned up a year or so later being used to hijack my eBay ID.
Fortunately I spotted it quickly and the $100+ of charges, for a car sale in the USA, were refunded.
I've been reluctant to trust Yahoo ever since.

I havent had a problem with rudetube but just open another email with anyone, you dont have to use or check it either that or use someone like Photobucket.com which is where i host all my pics and videos. not many people will see them unlike rudelube but it does allow you to post anything on here very easerly

I had not realised that it was so simple to open alternarive e-mail accounts with other service providers. I had always assumed that you were stuck with your own ISP, Doh!! (25 years using a computer for work related purposes)
Like Rob G what concerns me is what opened those user names linked to my e-mail address and if they have a nefarious purpose. About a year ago all 20 of my then active auctions on EBay were sumararily shut down by Ebay due unusual activity being detected on my PayPal/EBay accounts. Could there be a link ?
Makes me wonder if there is a problem out there that we need to be aware of that some of these social/sharing sites would rather not let on about. As I already mentioned I had the same problem the other day signining up for Facebook, luckily they provide a means to make contact directly. Facebook fixed selfsame problem and in thier return e-mail metioned they had rectified the issues not that it was a case of hamfisted newbie. Hmm ?
Again thanks for your ideas and assistance on this one, Max.

I have set up the YouTube account, eventually - forgot when signing in Hotmail is a .co.uk not a .com. Went to upload a 4 minute video and it is telling me it has about 2 hours to upload.
Now, I lve in a village about 3.5 miles from the exchange, I'm doing this about 9.30 a.m. when everybody has gone to work (dormitory village) and the schools have not broken up so you would think bandwidth is not seriously affected.
Yes, the camcorder is a new HD wide screen type and the file is 339MB size. Is this normal or am I doing sometthing wrong here ? I can download from BBC iPlayer much larger files (630 MB/1 hour programmes) in around 20 minutes under similar circumstances.
Sorry to prevail on you all again, Max.

Home internet connections are usually 'asymmetric' meaning you get a different speed uploading to what you would expect downloading. The download speed would be faster than the upload speed. Usually this is OK for home use where a small ammount of data is uploaded (i.e. what internet page to see) and a much larger ammount of data is downloaded (i.e. the actual internet page).

Many more people view videos that actually upload them. Unfortunatly uploading videos breaks the usual assumption that more has to be dowloaded than uploaded and therefore you probably would notice that uploading videos is slower than downloading them.

Totally normal.
Wait 'till you try a 10 min clip.
Sometimes it takes overnight to upload two clips.

Thank you for the information. I shall now rest easy and be patient. Now all I have to do is a little editing.

Try an online speed tester such as this one
http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/?gclid=CNqq2t37j6oCFQEf4QodnCTlwQ
There are many to choose from.
Mine is 5.3Mb d/l and a paltry 0.2Mb upload, it has never been better than 0.35Mb.
Much depends on your distance from the exchange if you are on copper cable. Optical is much faster.
