I wish to add the Powercap 900
looking at how to do this below Im concerned I may make mistake on the Cv29 etc.

Would you recommend sending my little loco to have it fitted by a greater mind than mine?

To connect a Massoth eMOTION Powercap (such as the Powercap micro or Powercap 900) to a Massoth eMOTION L (2.5A / Article No. 8154001) decoder, you need to connect three wires: power, ground, and a digital control line.
Using the Buffer Control (BC) feature allows the decoder to automatically switch off the power cap during programming so you do not have to install a physical isolation switch.



Step 1: Wire the Connections
The Powercap features a 3-wire cable harness that must be soldered directly to the appropriate contacts on the decoder:

  2. Black Wire (Decoder - / GND): Solder this to the Dec- (Ground) pad on the decoder.
  3. White Wire (Buffer Control): Solder this directly to the function output pad A5 on the underside of the eMOTION L decoder.
Note: Ensure your soldering iron does not bridges adjacent pads, as short circuits can permanently destroy the electronics.



Step 2: Configure the Decoder CVs
Once wired, you must program the decoder using your DCC system to activate the Buffer Control feature and protect the circuitry during programming.
  • Activate Buffer Control (BC): Set CV 118 = 31. This assigns the A5 output to handle the automatic smart charging and deactivation loop.
  • Disable Analog Operation: Set CV 29, bit 2 = 0 (e.g., if CV 29 is currently 6, change it to 2).

⚠️ Important: You must disable analog mode in CV 29. If analog operation is left enabled, the decoder will misinterpret the stored energy from the Powercap as an analog track voltage supply when DCC power is cut, causing the locomotive to run away uncontrollably.



Programming Safeguard
With CV 118 = 31, the decoder automatically cuts off the buffer line whenever it receives programming commands. If you ever need to reprogram the decoder and find that it fails to read or write properly, you may need to physically disconnect the white wire temporarily to ensure the capacitor isn't absorbing the programming signals.
 
Hm may be a good plan, I put one in a Stainz chassis conversion and all it did was to run the LGB sound box. Loco would not mive at all! Clearly I did something wring but followed the where to wire it in as described in the notes.
 
Just remember, if you're using capacitors, they can hold their charge for quite some time, so make sure they're fully discharged before you start playing around with them! Some of the very big capacitor units we found at work took several minutes to disharge.
