Well, around the time of Elliott's visit in August, he mentioned that he was thinking of selling his LGB track cleaner. I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while, so we did a deal. Luckily he was able to give me a little time to get the money together (thanks mate ) and last night I went over to his place to pick it up.

Of course it needed testing when it arrived on the WGLR .

It works a treat .

In the words of Mrs Cropley, it is a big bugger though .

As well as cleaning the track, this is of course capable of being used as a "normal" loco. I always had it in mind that it would spend it's "off duty" time hauling the rusty ballast hoppers.

One of my winter projects is to convert this Bachmann caboose into a Shark type ballast brake van as Dave (dvh 9) has done.

Bram Sep 23 2009, 04:35 PM

What a lovable grunty beast that is Mel, are you going to leave it like a bowl of custard or are you preparing for a respray

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:36 PM

Of course, you know me, can't leave anything alone . So the track cleaner will get a few "improvements" .

First thing for attention is the inside of the cab - luckily the roof just pops off thanks to a great bit of design by the LGB engineers.

Wey hey, very nice Mel, but it's very yellow.

Are you gonna upset Zmate and weather it a bit, or a lot?

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:37 PM

Err, no mate .

The standard LGB driver gets the sack too .

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:41 PM

I've got a few spare loco crew (from Llanfair), but seeing how this was a per way piece of kit, my attention was drawn to my Bachmann workmen .

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:48 PM

I went for the bloke leaning on his shovel (left of pic) because,

1 - he wasn't doing anything constructive and
2 - I thought his arm would rest on the controls if I cut the shovel away.

So he was getting a new job driving the loco, but it wasn't all good news .

As he was a bit tall, his feet got the chop . Also, I suppose he could drive wearing his hard hat, but I thought he'd most likely take it off - so the top of his head had to go too . Good news was, he got a new scalp and hair-do courtesy of a blob of sculpted Milliput.

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:51 PM

The cab controls were picked out with white and silver paint and the new driver put into position ....... fits a treat after his surgery .

His hard hat survived, plonked on top of the control panel.

yb281 Sep 23 2009, 04:54 PM

Nothing really wrong with the LGB driver, but I think this bloke looks better.

Next ...... on to the rest of the loco.

Bram Sep 23 2009, 04:56 PM

Neat idea Mel
