I was there also. I was serving with the BTP and a large number were drafted in from all over the country to assist with the crowds.
I had a perfect vantage point lineside. Only feet away as the cavalcade went past.
I kept getting in the way of photographers who were not best pleased.
If I remember correctly the weather was almost perfect.
Happy memories.

On our way back to Darlington Station, the taxi driver took us past the first station building in England presumably at Stockton?

No track there now though

Ithink that is the case but the first purpose built passenger station was/is Liverpool Rd, Manchester.

Brilliant, I enjoyed watching that - thanks for posting it. I didn't go to the event but I do have a book about the cavalcade somewhere.

Shame some of the footage of the APT was removed due to copyright - my young lad was intrigued by the APT - he's only seen modern stuff like Pendolinos and ICE-T.

The first passenger railway station was/is in Manchester now part of the Museum of Science and Industry.
