Swiss Vans

Having brought a RhB Ge 4/4 II in green, with matching coaches, I'm now starting to find some heritage freight stock to run with it.

At Bressingham this weekend, I succumbed and brought this cheap Gk van from a trader. Swiss rolling stock is slightly larger than DR, as can be seen in the photo of the Gk van next to a DR Gw van. The roof profile is different and the buffers replicate the RhB ones. It has a metal door and a ventilation hatch. Very different to the German version....

This van is lettered for the MOB, which is not physically connected to the RhB.

So I've removed the MOB lettering with a fibre glass burnish pencil....

RhB transfers applied to the metal doors, as I've seen on several You Tube videos.

Just a spray of matt varnish now and it's a job done, my first proper RhB freight wagon....

We imagined the ‘MOB to be connected to the RHB via the Ruschbahn (RB) , well it was a rule 1 railway. Even mapped the route via totally impossible mountains on the Swiss Railway map.

Well, that could be a possibility, with the proposed Grimselbahn Tunnel, which would link the ZB with the MGB. If you use the MOB's gauge changing train!

There was a plan to put in dual gauge from Zweisimmen to Interlaken, but this was deemed to be too expensive....

Yes they are. As my Ge 4/4 is in the early green livery, I'm looking for vintage wagons of the appropriate period.

A rake of modern Co-op containers wouldn't be of interest to me, but a mixed freight from the 60's or 70's is very appealing....

Those Cheapo "train" Newquida wagons are more pro typical of the RhB are they not ! even with Royal mail printing on the side !

Yes, those NQD vans certainly look good for being bashed into GBk ones, if they run reliably....

Trouble with them is the coupling extension, very floppy and tricky to uncouple. Converting to a bogie van with LGB bogies and metal wheels and they are a good un. But I guess that may negate any savings unless you had the bogie and metal wheels in stock. Here is one I built earlier then a similar prototype of my conversion found in France earlier this year.

Slowly but surely, I'm assembling a heritage RhB freight train.

I'd like some 2 axle log wagons next....

Forgot to tell you but one of mine is a scratch built on an LGB platform wagon so if all else fails a cheepo van or open may be the way to go.
