Starting the RC conversion conversation...

Yesterday I soldered up the necessary wires just to prove the working of all parts. It works, it works very well indeed. As the wiring harness I ordered in the UK are currently lost during transportation, new ones are on its way, I just couldn't wait to get a train running. The Corpet Louvet is an old engine I bought second hand and after opening it up, I discovered more is done to it in its past.
I tried to make the RC conversion and keep as much of the original wiring and pcb. For now, I piggy backed the power leads to the white and green lead. The lights are not yet connected as I want to get that working with the correct wiring harness. Couldn't find my heat shrink tubing box.... aw well... just ignore the quick and dirty approach friends.

Getting the batteries charged was another exercise... Must say that diving into this project and just 'do' stuff, for me that is the best way to learn things. View attachment 344456
It was stored in a carton box in the shed for two years. It didn't do good, a lot of cleaning was required.

starting up... Running to the shed 10 times for another tool...

Done! Only to find out I was out of 9V batteries for the transmitter ...

Its a mess on the footplate, but that is just temporary...
Good and very satisfying to get a battery conversion up and running. I still get a buz with a new one even though I am well into double figures with battery conversions. Couple of questions.
Did your lost post turn up?
Have you got into Micron/Deltang programming yet? For help on this look at Ge_rik ‘s blog where he explains it very well. I would have been completely lost when I needed to update mine.

Hi John thanks!

Lost parcel is still lost. MicronRC is shipping again.
No I haven't yet got into programming. Thanks for pointing this out to me, it is something I certainly want to investigate in the near future!

But I first want to sort things out correctly, with the wiring and getting the lights working. In the mean time the RTM #16 steam tram loco is on the bench for the same upgrade :-D

I found the instructions a bit confusing where they refer to the same things in different ways and different things the same way! I downloaded and printed the prog notes from the Deltang webb site though Micron may have their own by now, been a while since I was delving and I think Deltang as such out of the frame?

This was my crib sheet to ensure I had a clear view of what I was doing it.

This crib sheet helped me get my head around the varying outputs.

Don't look back to Deltang, to program Micron.
The Micron products can do all that the Deltang did, and more.

Yes, there is more than one way of doing many things.

Help is here if you need it.

Ow wow, that looks like work to me! :inlove:
Well worth it in the long run, I found that going in without a clear plan was not a good idea. You can see a sort of profanity on the first table where I screwed it all up with the wrong programming! Have 5 items controlled from my handset, 3 with sound. What was complex were the 2 steam trams where I wanted 4 sounds available, nice man at Micron worked out what to do but I had to do it so that was a pretty harsh learning curve. But got it in the end.

What is good about the deltang/micron is the ability to program the buttons/switches as you wish with the same button being able to do 2 functions. See my crib sheet below on the back if my handset where Switch A does Westinghouse with long held up and blower with just flick up.

Expensive tastes, Henri...

Even without one having been run, here in the UK, they are possibly the most 'British' looking LGB loco there is?

I love the Corpet Louvet, the Claptowte Railway runs two of them, both repainted in the corporate livery of unlined black, in an attempt to Anglicise their appearance. I don't actually 'need' any more locomotives, but I could certainly be tempted if a suitable open cab version came along at the right price. I think it would suit running between the auto-train coaches. They run on MTS III.
