Just started work on my "what might have been" L&B project.

Could anybody suggest a suitable sound card/speaker method of providing chuff sound for a Mallet type loco. Pref' not two people going "chuff..chuff...chuff" out of synch and one occasionally going "woo....woo"
Loco is intended to be battery powered, c18v max', with a Mac 5 speed controller. Probably Spectrum DX RX.
Hope to have it running by next summer.

Hi max
I have used the LGB 'Uintah/sumpter mallet sound board. It has on-board back-up caps and a volume control. It will run on DC, battery or DCC but finding the space might be a problem in your loco. I put mine in the tenders of Bachmann annies. The chuff is triggered by a hall sensor mounted on the tender bogie and magnets on the inside of a wheel.
I managed to get some boards for about £30 on ebay but they now command about £70.
The sound is V good
here is the link to the thread that I posted about it....

I've often wondered if compound Mallets' exhausts go in and out of sinc.
I'm guessing as the H.P. exhaust feeds the L.P. cylinders and only these L.P. cylinders exhaust through the chimney maybe you only hear the L.P. exhaust.
