Yes, I have built the circuit (on the bench). In 'normal working' there is a signal to the servos at all times- the 'C/O' in the diagram does mean 'change over' (perhaps I should have put 'SPCO') It is only me being belt and braces in using centre off switches, so i can cut the power if anything goes wrong.
The Heatcote Electonics controller sounds like an interesting alternative. I wonder if it could be used in the same circuit (i.e one per signal box)?

I would think those servo controllers would be just the thing for you - two of them would replace your 40 MHz radio stuff. (They do what my Picaxe circuits do that I started off this thred with)
