Ruritanian Railways - Indoor Section

I forgot to post an updated track plan of the new circular layout. Compare with post #1 in this thread and you'll notice that although I haven't done much outdoors in terms of growing the layout, 2011 has been a good year for indoor land grabs! The gridsquares are 12 inches (304.8mm) each side.

Good luck, but be careful. My superintendent appears to expect me to live in the cellar now.

Only after I lurch back from the pub on skittles team night: Thursday!

A few pictures of indoor running as the rain lashed down yesterday. Today looks like being very similar!

The Schoema was busy on the Wednesdays Only parcels working's Zenda local feeder. In the foreground is an exquisite coaling stage very kindly made for me by Mel (yb281). Scenery on the indoor section remains mainly conceptual, though the loco shed does tend to dominate the scene.

The Schoema passes the shed area.

Mallets simmer gently on shed, awaiting the next fine day.

Peter you're making me wish I had a permanent indoor line! I'm planning on putting together our 'indoor' track at Christmas as I'm expecting poor weather and need to get my LGB fix!

I think the engine shed area might benefit from a few more yard lights and perhaps some signal/signage boards (you know the bell, whistle, stop, warning etc). I posted up a link a few weeks ago that might give you some inspiration. If they were just stuck to poles on little flat bases then if they were knocked they'd just fall over rather than break :)

Good suggestion James. When the Christams nonsense is over, I may have more time.

I heartily recommend battery power with the carbon pickups removed from LGB kit if you are running indoors. Grey streaks of carbon dust on a light carpet do NOT get rave reviews from the household authorities! This year, we are running battery power around the tree on (plastic) Newqida track. Works brilliantly.

i can run indoors, albeit a circle of track, but it works

The royal train was in action today, bringing Princess Katarina back home from her Swiss finishing school for the Christmas festivities. Extra vans were kindly provided at the rear of Ruritania's royal baggage car by the Swiss Railways to cater for various small purchases made by Katarina in the past term. Prince Rudolf was described as "overcome with emotion" at a reception for the princess.

Fear not good sir.
Please express to the Ruritainian Railway's M.D. the willingness of the BS&WR's management to offer up to ten similar vans for hire should the need arise! :rolf:

Prince Rudolf is touched by the kindness of your suggestion Mr Robinson, but only intends to avail himself of the suggestion for journeys of Princess Katarina away from Ruritania. His Serene Highness expressed the opinion that any fathers of princesses would understand his position.

Wednesday is parcels train (with passenger accommodation) day. No change today except that no passenger stock was available and - against all expectations - an intending traveller appeared at the border station! With the staff's usual flair and skill, the voyager was offered the choice of riding in either the guard's accommodation or on the locomotive. She decided on the loco, to the crew's evident satisfaction. The train is seen at Zenda depot, where the lady removed traces of her adventure in the depot manager's private washroom.

Good grief!! What DID the loco crew do to her?????? The mind boggles. :nail::nail::laugh:

We have no information, except that the lady allegedly said it had been "an experience like no other in her life and she was most grateful".

Great work. But be careful, those indoor layouts can be quite addictive! Back in the 1990s I had a nice outdoor track with all R3 curves plus a little basement layout with all R1s. To be honest I got more use and enjoyment from the indoor track. No weather or track cleaning to worry about and no bending down on my knees.....all I need now is a nice big barn! :)
