Round Robin boxcar

Indeed, thanks given. Was great not just to have the boxcar run on the H&MGR but to go through all the little bits and bobs that it has accumulated over the years. :D

I've added my thanks too; well done Paul (and Peter for bearing the trans Pacific cost) - and you've earned your retirement little boxcar, I hope you find some quiet, covered siding in which to spend it.
 
Well it will be nice to get it back for a bit and look at all the "stuff" inside! And just in time too as today I got word that I am to lose the house so it will be a final run on the rails and then everything will get lifted. so a fitting circle of events.
I went through the entire thread tonight and it truly is amazing the journey this car has taken over the last five years! My thanks to one and all for getting it around safe and sound.
It will be going back to the UK for the Worley show so after I`ve done looking at it for bit there`s no reason it can`t go back a bit early and visit any lines it failed to find the first time or indeed revisit if anybody wants it? Anyway way Pic`s will be posted when it arrives here in the next couple of week`s.........................Paul

It's back!! The boxcar arrived safe and sound today. I'm a bit busy at work right now but pictures tomorrow................Paul
 
Good to here it got back to you safely. This wagon was a brilliant idea.

The Warley show isn't until 28th & 29th of November. So long as everyone is happy I will mention this wagon at our sponsor's meeting (Railway Modeller, Bachmann, Hornby, Ian Allan) in June and show them a few photos from around the world. I expect they will find it as interesting as I do. I see this as an opportunity to get a bit of coverage for G scale in the model railway press so I will make sure it is mentioned in any press releases nearer the show.

Paul - I will pm you with my address etc nearer the time.
 
So Paul, you have had it back a little while now, any comments?
 
Well to be honest I'm stunned! I can't believe the amount of memento's that arrived with the boxcar! at the moment it's sitting at work on display above my desk at work. All my customers are really surprised at the story of it's journey around the world and the number of railways it has visited. I shall try to cut back the jungle that is my railway at the moment and get a picture of it at it's starting point. Life is a bit tough at the moment so the sight of the boxcar cheer's me up every time I look at it reminding me of all my fellow railroaders and friends around the world. Thank you to everybody who ran the boxcar and took such great care of it! It's a minor miracle that not once did it go missing in the post at any point in it's journey!
 
Thank you for doing that Paul. It seem an age since it trundled round the South Buckinghamshire here in Florida.

I know I sent it off with a sample of the sugar white sand of the Emerald Coast, but if I remember correctly, someone decided that (in the early stages) adding things wasn't a good idea. So, if you want to add some of our particularly unique Appalachian Quartz sand, that's only found here in Northwest Florida, I'll send you some!
 
Seems a age that it sat here sandwitched between some Stainz Locos on The Little Stainz Railway

If it is going on its' travels again later in the year.. Do you *really* want 'little bags of white powder' travelling with it??

It has survived travel and inspection (possibly) to date.. Don't want to push our luck??

Is it time for that great boxcar to start its second circum navigation of the world? I'm sure that there are plenty of railways who would welcome another visit and some for a first visit.:D

Well at the moment it's on display in my workshop! But if there's enough interest maybe it can go walk about again? Trouble is there's no more space for signing........

Sounds good to me - while a coach would be nicely different, it won't have as much blank space for signatures as a simple boxvan..... as a suggestion, if anybody has one to spare (sorry, I haven't) then what about one of the plain white boxvans, the "unbranded" beer cars?

Why not just empty the old one and add a scroll of paper, for each railway to be added to? That list could then be easily displayed afterwards, or even during. It would need to be tougher paper than writing type, something like drawing weight (used to be called Cartridge paper).

My railway would gladly host again, if it passes close.
 
The Round Robin Boxcar was a fantastic and original concept, and personally I think it should remain as such.

I understand that the boxcar didn't get everywhere and it is disappointing to miss out, but it was a monumental task to send it to as many lines as possible around the globe, and essentially there would always be one or two that it wouldn't get to.

But..

If you get another one and start again, where do you stop? If some railways missed out on the first one, and subsequently miss out on the second too, do we start a third?

The original idea was both unique and brilliant, and thanks to the members of this great forum, superbly executed. If we start again the idea is no longer original or unique. Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge? The original idea was great, but by the 10th or 11th viewing of yet another person trying to put their unique spin on how to throw iced water over themselves, it all became a bit dull.

Perhaps I'm just a sentimental old sod (or a miserable git :) ), but I think there has to come a time whereby the Box car is finally returned to it's originator and becomes part of the history and legacy of GSC.

Crikey, just gone back through this thread from post #1. Wasn't it nice and clean when it started out.
