Round Robin boxcar

It's currently with Moonraker, he of MyLocoSound.

Any news? it all seems to have gone quiet.............

Right now it is moving around garden railways in South Australia. On October 5th it will be back at my place for an open day. On October 9th it will make an appearance at the annual convention of the British Railway Modellers of Australia. Then where?

If anyone in other Australian states is reading this, do they want it sent to them?

Don't you love the wall in the foreground of the above photo? It is bathroom tiling made in Italy and we buy it from a local tile shop.

Whats the backing material behind it?

The tiles are made up of rectangular stones glued to a thin flexible web behind. Not sure what the web is made of.

The attached photo shows where I use it for station platforms.

Peter

PS. Since this is nothing to do with the Round Robin boxcar, may be a moderator wants to move this.

I know what the tiles are silly boy, seen them in kitchens and bathrooms. The question was, what's behind them that they are attached to?

Concrete block?.... masonry? ....cheese? ;)

Definitely Gorgonzola! O0

The wall structure behind the tiles is Hebel stone, the tile sheets are glued on with bathroom (waterproof) tile adhesive, it has been there a few years now with no sign of coming loose. The foreground is also Hebel glued to the top of a retaining wall, the contoured surface is covered with a concrete slurry. I have intended to glue dirt and greenery onto it but I haven't got there yet.
The wall is my representation of the famous chinese walls on the Pichi Richi Pass where the Pichi Richi Pass Preservation Society (South Australia) run there narrow gauge trains.
I tried cheese but it went mouldy!

The British Railway Modellers of Australia held their annual convention in Adelaide last week and, on a tour day, had lunch at my garden railway where the box car was on show.

It is now ready to move on. Anyone in Australia want it?

If nobody else wants it in Australia then I think it's time for it to come home? It's been quite a few years and a lot of miles since I sent it off!!

Having gained a new passenger, the boxcar is now at the Great Southern SteamUp in Emerald, Victoria, Australia. This is a three day event for live steamers attended by about 80 enthusiasts. It is held in a village hall and there are two layouts, both with 32mm and 45mm track. Photo attached.

The boxcar is now with the Rails in the Garden group. Mike Bickford is taking it back to Sydney where it will run on several garden railways.

The Round Robin boxcar is now visiting Harden NSW and will be heading out to visit a couple of other garden lines over the next weeks.  A slight `gauge problem` as my line is 32mm but that is just typical for Australia - we have had incompatible gauge problems on the prototypes since day1.  Meanwhile, another pic of the boxcar on the Rails in the Garden layout at the Great Southern Steamup.

Once the wagon has finished its rounds it should go back to Paul as he instigated this great idea.

I do think it has potential to provide publicity for the garden railway hobby and also GSC forum. There can't be many items of rolling stock that have travelled so far and wide and it is a brilliant story.

I am able to get a slot for it in a showcase at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibiton 2015. We could put the wagon and its story on show where it will be seen by 16,000 plus model railway enthusiasts.
