RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Just managed to catch up with this thread Richie.

This is by far the most superb first kitbash I have seen.

Absolutely outstanding build mate. A credit to you. Well done.

I'll just go the garage now to retire my moddelling toolkit as your first effort has well and truly put me to shame

Cheers Gareth many thanks for your kind words , this could be my first and last bash not been going down well with wifey with all my time spent in the shed :wits: was banned from the shed last week :brokeheart: Not much more to do now have added the decals today just needs to be varnished and have the sound fitted if it ever turns up .

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Hi Richie
Everything is really coming on tickety boo. This is a kitbash that should be seen in the wider modeling world..it is that good!
What sound unit are you using...the Phoenix rotary?

I have put my rotary kitbash on hold as I have been working on the new area to the right of the layout now called 'Pointrock', named due to a sodding great rock in the vicinity!
Will send up some piccies when more complete ..hopefully over the weekend or next week.
It will have a new larger and more detailed saw mill complex and the one that was originally up in Arrowhead is being redeveloped as is most of the Arroehead station/village area.
I have also added siding loops and more block wiring (no DCC for me!). So the rotary will have to wait but yours is so great that I will keep mine under wraps even when complete!!! ;-)
We have an open day on Sunday week so everything has to be finished by then. Feel free to make a vist if you feel like it as it would be good to actually meet the guy with the superb skills!.
We will have a couple more later in the summer if this is too early on for you.

Hi Mike
Would love a Phoenix sound unit but can't afford one of them :brokeheart: The sound unit that i have on order is a Mr Rails that works off track voltage. For £30 the sound didn't sound to bad on his web site will set it so the steam sound runs fast at low track voltage , i also have a whistle sound unit coming as well from Mr Rails these sound very nice have a english steam whistle for the plow works off a reed switch with track magnets i will also will be adding a push button switch under the tender water hatch to work manualy. I f you look in the G Scale Journal winter 2009 ( one with your layout Mike) you will see an article by Julian Butcher fitting one to a Bachmann Annie .
Look forward to see some pics of your new town Point Rock and your new larger saw mill , Would love to come down some day on one of your open days your first ones abit too short notice would you be able to PM me with your other planned dates would then be able to book a B&B in your area .
Regards Richie

Hi Mike
The decals i used were Woodland Scenics and CDS lettering from Back2bay6.
They happen to be wifeys collection of shoes called Just The Right Shoe lost count of how many she's has :rolf:For every shoe i buy her i get a day to work in the shed more than one shoe i get to spend some money on rolling stock etc :rolf:

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

An excellent piece of modeling, well done.
All you need now is something to propel it, I suggest a Bachmann K27, an Accucraft K36 and an Accucraft K37 between them should cope with most drifts.
Getting that sort of purchase past SWMBO could be interesting! :rolf:

Many thanks for all your kind words
Ido have a K-27 Neil but looks abit large next to the plow the plow is more 1:22.5 scale plan to use 2 or 3 Annies with a box car & caboose .
