Cheers Mike
This new motor does seem to have some power when i turn up the juice and the fan is alot stronger than the computer fan i had also having a 6mm drive shaft helps .
I bet we don't see any more snow now till christmas

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

Richie,
Does this motor spin the blade faster than your old setup? I use a 12 volt drill motor with a 18 volt battery to get it spinning faster(which seems to be the key). Mine did okay this winter, but it was pretty fluffy snow.

Nico, I fear that with the power that Richie is supplying to the blade it would be 'hair today, gone tomorrow'! :rolf::rolf:

Hi Jerry
My new motor does seem to spin alot faster and sounds more powerful it's a 12- 24v motor which is geared .

Hi Guys
Have had my hair cut short so no chance of getting it caught in the fan which does blow out some wind :rolf:

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

Thanks Richie, keep your fingers away from those blades! I put a DPDT switch on mine, one direction it throws better than the other, center is off.

Hi Jerry
Have put a three way switch in lights only , centre off , lights and fan . As the fan is track powered it will go in reverse when the locos back back .
Haven't had a good day today trying to fit it all together the 7mm bolt that goes through the fan and into the motor hub wouldn't screw in straight and has taken out the thread :wits: looks like i will now need a new hub or tap it out to 8mm or use a 6mm coupling from motor to fan, just when i thought i had it alwright :crying:

With all that has gone wrong today with the cross threaded bolt there was plenty of hot air from me no need for a hair dryer :rolf:

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

You have to create your photo/graphic and host it on a web based photo site like Flicker etc. Then go into your Gscalecentral forum 'user controls' and find the 'signature and comment' There is a little symbol for inserting an image, click that and then paste or type in the image location from Flicker (or other web based image site). Your graphic/photo will appear where the cursor was. SIMPLES

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

Rotary snow plow OY came out of the Charma work shop (my shed) today
The Rio Grande have put in a new motor and fan , have also added another piston and cylinder inside to drive the plow but both now don't run . I came across a old photo of the OY with white rims on the wheels so have painted them to match the tenders . I also put in a new 18v light at the front and a new light in the cab .
Make over complete

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

The Rio Grande had the Rotary OY back into the work shops today to carry out modifications to the front scoop after it's poor performance with the recent snow full :wits:
Have filed the front scoop down and enlarged the opening for the snow to enter the blades so the snow should now slide straight up the scoop into the blades but won't know until it snows :impatient:
Will post some pics of the work done tomorrow

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

look forward to seeing the modifications Richie.

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY VISITS BEAVERCREEK

Just a few pic's of the work carried out yesterday on the front scoop of the plow .
Just needs repainting and bolting back together and some snow to test it .
