RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Been busy this week working on the tender number 1 have finished all the planking on the bunker added hand rails ,ladder and a tap to the tender body made up the roof for the coal bunker out of plastic card and started to put on the hinges . On the front of the tender i have used Millerput to fill in any holes and to mould round the front of the water tanks have also added a roof with walkway , on the rear i have added a steal girder and chains to a water hatch which i have also made out of plastic card . Many more small details to add then ready to paint and add sound .

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Rotary OY had it's first run today at Codsal Wood G scale meet , seemed to run ok the fan worked well at low speed the only problem that i can see is that when the fan spins at high speed the plow starts to push it self backwoods putting more work on the loco pushing will need 2 or 3 locos in the snow just like the real plow .

Hi Richie
It looks b***y fantastic you should feel rightly proud of your first crack...there should be many ol' hands that would be mightily chuffed() with that result!
Now I also have a face to put to the words! Take care with the hair and that blade :rolf:
I maybe I am wrong, but don't think I am, if the fan is blowing the car back then maybe the fan blade should be reverse run and then it will cut into the 'snow' or air. The snow will then (hopefully) be forced back into the cowling and thrown out of the chute. The actual plow and the USAT one has a chute that can be changed from one side to the other but the fan still (obviously) goes in the same direction.
If I am wrong I will go to the end of the garden and try and find my brain.
Found a break in continuity yesterday, in the one place that it is impossible to get to, Dab Nabbit! It is in the Arbour Summit area on the map and it under the bushes, in the tunnel behind the Feed and Seed building which is wired in for lighting etc. Its that darn Murphy again and his s*****g law.

But besides that, everything seems to be working again after the rebuilds, bush terminatiion, and repairs. It was good to see the track cleaner go around (with the help of two locos on the grades) doing its business. There is a new town/village just sprung up on the far right which has a sawmill (the one up at Arrowhead will be changing into another industry as the layout gets a revamp up there.

Hi Mike
It was only half way through the Rotar build that i noticed the chute went both ways , i thought that one side had the window and the other side went the snow it was only later i added the other window on the left side but just kept the chute one side to go with the shape of the fan blades , the blades can be turned but won't sit in the rotar housing because of the moulting bolts ,had it so the front of the blades will cut the snow and the paddle shape of the fan will hopefully throw out the snow only one way to find out LET IT SNOW :laugh:Will have to book myself on a summer sking holiday and take it with me . Done abit more work on the tender 1 & 2 today fitted AMS body mount couplers need another visit to Back2bay6 for some glad hands and coupling lifting bars .
Look forward to seeing some pics of your new town thats poped up other winter have you had a gold rush in your area:rolf: Also been out this week end clearing track ready to run trains have had no problems so far with the track but my Aristo TE has been playing up :wits:
Once again many thanks for your kind words Regards Richie

Re:RIO GRANDE ROTARY SNOW PLOW OY

Had abit more time to work on both tenders this week , after looking at pics of tender number one the cover over the bunker looked to tall so i cut it down by 9mm so the top of the bunker is in line with the plows roof . Made a visit to Back2bay6 yesterday for more bits and bobs Ozark miniatures Gladhands ,tender water valves some more Hartford nuts and bolts brass wire to make lift bars metal wheels for tender number two and two SLM driver figures Norman and Barney both need painting . Have added brass foot steps and wire hoops to hold truck chains to tender one and AMS bodie mount couplers to them both . Finished off the hinges on the coal bunker cover .

When you first started I thought that it all looked a bit iffy and would look a bit of a mess when finished but it just goes to show how wrong I was as it looks excellent!

Richie is there anyway you can incorperate a cock up or two like an out of scale rivet or a spelin mistake to the lettering your making the rest of us look bad

Tony

Hi Tony
I have had my fair share of cock ups with this build :wits: i guess thats what you get with kit bashing it's like 2 steps forward then 1 step back with each part of the build  This was a winter project that now looks to be finished in June .
