Anyhow

Last evening was getting withdrawal symptoms as I had not made any concrete for a while

so

Looked at the end wall by the canal tunnel which needed some more rocks for facing

So with difficulty placed some with mortar, leaving a narrow planting pocket behind

Left over night to set

Then this morning, before the sun got too hot, raked out the surplus from joints with trowel point, gave it a good stiff brushing,

But not really happy with the end result

need more practice with rocks, to get the strata look right

but as they are so heavy, (& its the bigger they are the better it looks)

doubt if I shall

so its back to my favourite hypertuffa

Going to have a go at the last bridge next but as its so hot, TOO hot

( into my summer Khaki trousers for coolness )

I think I've cracked it,

The problem was the camber

Those workmen will have to learn to lean against the curve there, like riding a bike

I bought a sailing boat from a gift shop, cause it was an end of season silly sale.

probably designed as a shelf queen

But as it looked water proof I have several times put in water to do a photo shoot
no probs.

then this week I left if overnight in the new canal basin & it had started to leak just a little

It looks to be built as the original that is plank on plank on a rib frame

Outside of hull.

it appears to be sealed with a good quality paint

I am assuming because there is perhaps very little overlap of timbers the water has got in & swollen some of the planks, warping them & breaking the seal.

So Mariner types, questions

do I just give it another coat of paint, on the outside? ( & spoil the look)

a coat of black bitumastic type paint on the inside? ( quite prototypical)

Give the outside a coat of some sort of fibreglass/ resin ( dont fancy the mess of that

And from my box of "some time, some where, someday, bits" I think I have found a suitable crew man!

IIRC also from a seaside gift shop end of season sale

So not one to hang about

I rummaged in my pile of paint tins

Found a Diamond Polyeurethane black gloss from about 25 years vintage, to do the bilges with,

except it's more purple than black now

and its nice & thick & porridgy

Rummaged a bit more & found a tin of polyeurethene red gloss, thats about 20 years old

( I know how old it is as I remember son doing skirting boards in his bedroom with it

Must remember to remove that unused close pole leaning against the fence , that looks like it growing out of the cab
