Then the verticals were done, wich raises a ridge each side of the scratch.

So a brush over with a soft handbrush softens the edges,
this will benefit with a bit more emphasis when the mortar has dried a lot more

The weir has had a coat of hypertuffa

the ridges are an attempt to cause the water to tumble more as it cascades down

QUOTE(xxxxxx May 30 2009,)
QUOTE(granitechops @ May 29 2009, )
The ridges are an attempt to cause the water to tumble more as it cascades downI'm thinking that if you mortar in place a few jagged rocks here and perhaps pile them up a little that should encourage more splashing noises. It depends how strong the flow over the weir is, if it's low (and the width of teh weir indicates it will be) I doubt you will get much sound from it no matter what you do.

Dons Reply...

It was the visual effect, rather than the sound I was after,

as its wide, the volume per inch over 40 inches wide is going to be low,

so wanted to make most of the visual by multi cascading

well thats the theory anyway

As the peat in the mix takes a while to properly set, I hope I will have the patience to resist the temptation to fill with water at least for 4- 5 days

Drilled & screwed top batten to edge of yard surface

Screwed uprights into that

& drilled & plugged wall for each upright, ABOVE water level, so as not to puncture liner

The bottom of each needs holding, so I favour putting a bit of mortar around the bottom of the uprights to achieve that

Dont know if it was actual practice, but the top of the uprights will act as bollards.

Now, do I turn the tops round for the ropes, or leave them square

Round would look good, but they are a bit big to go in my drill chuck
