No sleeper coach?

I have not come across any sleeper coach in G scale.

45 mm gauge in 1:22.5 scale translates to 1000 mm gauge in real life. There are plenty of sleeper coaches in this gauge in reality.

Why G scale has none?

Given most European NG lines tend not to be trans national, never mind continental, then the lack of "sleepers" does not surprise me. Particularly as LGB's, and others, home market tends to be "mittel" European. But I expect to be proved wrong. I could see the demand for some to be used in engineering works trains. Yes other nations like South Africa and in the far east have extensive NG trans national networks that would have a need, and that would work out near 1000 mm gauging. But their modelling is again very much dependent on home market demad. Of course the scale 1.22.5 is shared by Gauge 3 The Gauge '3' Society, British Standard Gauge, Large Scale Garden Railways which models std gauge running on 64 mm gauged track. Garden Railway Specialists have been past champions of this modeling sector but seem to be tailing off their product range. Max

Sleeper coaches are best for long distance journeys, they also tend to run at night when most gscale owners don’t operate.

Not sure if there’s many long distance journeys that warrant it in European narrow gauge.

However piko do a range of European items, so could quite easily release a fictional livery if there was demand.

Tooling up a sleeper coach mould probably would sell many and would be a loss maker

There were possible proposals for sleeper coaches on the 3ft gauge Irish NG. There was an ambitious proposal to build a cross Ireland railway, in part using existing NG lines. Sadly it never got built, wish I could remember the book I read it in - possibly the Boyde book.

With the slow speeds usually found on Irish NG lines, sleeping accomodation would have been a must but I doubt travellers would have got much rest with intermediate shunting to add and detach vehicles en route. A wonderful ‘may have been’ that would no doubt have lost lots of money or cost the ratepayers heavily if built under the system ‘barony?’ That was popular in the Irish ‘mania’ days.

If anyone has the patience (I do not) this Hansard link goes on about the ‘barony’ thing in Ireland.

Sleeper coaches on meter gauge are common in South East Asia.
Before India converted its entire network to broad gauge, there were meter gauge sleeper coaches in mainlines.

Japan + parts of Africa use cape gauge, which is only slightly wider (1067 mm) and there are plenty of sleeper coaches in this gauge.

Agree that it is rare in Europe due to smaller sizes of countries.

I measured with Playmobil figure lying on floor, in a Playmobil panorama coach, there is enough space to create sleepers. :D

To create a realistic sleeper coach, one needs a long 2x2 axles coaches like Panorama coach.

Layout can be of 2 types
[1] traditional sleeper with corridor on one side
[2] business jet type seating converted to beds - similar to Panorama coach layout. The table goes down and seats fold to make bed

In this hot weather we can close the curtains and pretend it is night time and run sleeper coaches indoor

Interestingly, Sir Arthur Heywood built a four berth sleeping car to run on his 15" gauge Duffield Bank Railway. That only ran around his garden.

I can't find a picture of the real thing. I think there's a full scale replica on the Perry grove Railway, but you can get a model of it from MG Models in Gn15 (and his 8 seater Dining Car)

Oh yes forgot that, travelled Delhi to Jodhpur then a week or so later Jodhpur to Udaipur both in MG sleepers. That was back in 1987.
