I cut 3 planks on 3 folding tables, so the planks do not butt up together how could I fix that? I’m very new with this by the way this will be all live steam G scale and HO scale oval in an oval.. Can anyone recommend a color when I paint the planks it’s a 5 x 12 set up I will not put any houses or stations or trees or bushes or beds. It’s just a temporary go together. How could I hold these 3 boards together level and put up against each other and what color paint should I use And how many cans Is Krylon good how many cans might I need this is indoor in my basement.

Kind Regards
Robert..

Try using coach bolts and dowels to align the boards. If you want to aint them, but have no scenery as such, id use an earth colour

Thank you Paul I might do a light Green by Krylon.

In the UK, Krylon is a 'rattle can' spray paint. If that's also the case on your side of the pond, you might find it gives too thin a coat; an emulsion paint will cover well and is cheap(er), but is quite porous. Live steamers tend to dribble oil and water, so a non-absorbent paint with an eggshell finish might be best. What material are your baseboards made from?

Hello thank you the boards are plain PlywoodWhat would you recommend this layout is plain I’m not adding nothing to it at all.

I suggest a 'bathroom' or 'kitchen' paint, as they are designed to resist condensation..
I am sure there will be something similar, your side of the pond?

I would go for an earth (chocolate) brown, or a darker grass-green. - A light colour will show stains from oily-gunk more.

But 'acceptable' colo(u)r, is very personal.

Getting baseboard to be level can be a bit of a problem. My go to choice is to use a piece of wood joiners screwed to the top of both boards (use more than 1 if necessary) to get the boards level at the top. Then drill holes for joining bolts with the holes a good fit for the bolts, screw in bolts take off top wood and you should have perfectly flat joined up boards. You may need to sand a little where the screws have gone in, if the holes offend a bit of wood filler will resolve that before you paint. You may also need some wood under the boards when you do the temporary joiners as you could be using thin wood ir ply folding tables.

Thank you for all your advise,I will keep it simple.

This might offer some useful tips and ideas Modular Layout Standards - Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers OK, it's somewhat enlarged from where you want to be but as they say, "from small acorns.......". Good to get some standards in place. Talking about combining scales. My OO9 test layout with my 16 mm scale (1:19.3). I have seen layout where the smaller scales are used to depict miniature railways within a scene. Max
