Mysterious switch in Corpet (2078)

In my Corpet, a first version with number 2078, there is this switch on the boiler inside the cabin. And I have no clue of it’s use, other than if I switch it, it doesn’t run. (I run analog track power).

I have not succeeded to find any manuals for the 2078 online, only found the 20781, which seems to not have this switch. On the picture you can see the back end of another switch peeking through the floor which is used to power the smoke generator. I’m quite sure that is a pre owner tweak.

As my Corpet is altered by a previous owner, I’m wondering what the use of the switch could be?

If nothing else, it means the loco can be 'parked' on a powered section of track. - Very useful on an analogue layout. Do any lights stay on, when this switch is off?

Most early LGB puffers had one of these switches. Some had the 3 positions numbered 1,2,3. Could never work out entirely what the purpose of it was but I think left was off, right was on if I remember correctly.

Henri has got the right number, the green Corpet is 2078. How do I know?

This is my one, very likely to get a Battery DCC Sound makeover in the near future.

My grey (21780) one has the same switch. The manual says . . .



As you can see they don't agree on whether there are three positions or four!

Although the next picture clarifies . . .

I still have to fix the rear of this loco as a previous owner thought hauling a tender would look nice, so he cut up the rear to create an opening towards a tender...

I hope one day to find a replacement for this part.

Henri. Out of curiosity. Does your green version have a different number on the front buffer beam compared to the '51' on the side? Some LGB Corpet Louvets were made like that in error.

Not sure thats a factory fitted switch, the left hand hole dosnt look factory drilled and the switch face looks a bit big but i may be wrong.

The original Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Claptowte Railway, Ivor Bigged, negotiated the purchase of two Corpets, over the years. The first, a red one (now black) has the identical three-way switch on the backhead, complete with shiny screws, the second, a later version, with factory fitted decoder, has a swiths in the same location, but a more modern version with longer button and blackened screws.
